For years I have had this squeaking when i press the clutch, it sounds like it come from the engine bay rather than the pedals.

Now after the ST205 been in the garage for a year its worse than ever, people on the street turn around if I press the clutch at a stoplight..

It does not sound like a mechanic (as in metal to metal) sound, its more like a uhm, cheap kid whistle.

Any ideas ?

I was thinking of changing the clutch fluid as the first thing, but it looked like it was a PITA to do kindasad.gif


..I can add that the clutch works as good as ever smile.gif

I get a squeaking sound with mine every once in a while. It goes on and off. I think it might be the TOB pushing against the pressure plate or the slave cylinder moving the fork

most likely the clutch release fork where it pivots inside the transmission or the slave cylinder rod that presses on the release fork.

It just feels strange if it is the slave cylinder that sounds like that when it have been working for years with this sound.

..I haven't looked but I guess that its impossible to change the slave cylinder without removing the transmission on those cars, which means that there is no way in h**l I would do it until it stop working completly smile.gif

If it is friction between metal parts well, hard to do anything about that too from the outside frown.gif

The slave cylinder is bolted to the front of the tranny, just remove the two bolts and disconnect the line and its out.

Sounds more like the throw out bearing. Does it only make noise if the engine is running while you press the clutch?

No, it does not matter if the engine is running or not, the sound comes when the clutch pedal is pressed.

So the slave cylinder is accessable from outside, very nice, this is not the case on my SAAB for example kindasad.gif

(Sometimes I wish we still would use wirebased clutches instead of hyudralic..)

Bad throw out bearing (release bearing) had same problem when I installed my new clutch got some cheap Chinese TOB lasted 3weeks. Started to make noise, drove for about 1year, finally got pissed. Pulled off trans scrapped TOB and replaced with USA made TIMKEN or you can use JAPAN made SKF.

Had noise when clutch pushed in with engine running, with engine off it wouldnt make noise at all= BAD TOB. Besides that didnt have any other noises.

My clutch was squeaking a while back. I would have sworn it was under the hood as well. Turns out all it was was just a loose nut that holds the clutch pedal/master cylinder together. It's worth checking.
