Some background...I'm doing a complete rewire of the engine to connect an Autronic SM4 aftermarket computer. I'm almost done and I'm cleaning up the extra wires that were for the old setup with the stock computer since that whole system will be completely out of the equation. I'm also trying to power the new computer. I'm getting frustrated with the black/orange wire (black wire with the orange stripe) because it's EVERYWHERE! It comes from the EFI relay in the engine bay, splits off to the igniter, goes to the injectors, goes through the passenger side of the firewall, and then it runs to the ignition switch to await for a completed circuit. I hate this wire, I'm trying to determine if I should cut all power to it and use the 10 awg wire in another place or leave it powered up but make it safe from a short. I need a lot of 10 AWG wire to power the individual coils I'm running, and I don't want to buy it if the black/orange wire is pointless now. Also, according to the wire diagram, everything that I have come across above has been removed. I would love to leave it connected to the ignition and power my Autronic SM4. I have a chiltons manual and a haynes manual, each one is lacking in information but they both seem to confirm everything I've mentioned above, but I know how these manuals are..they are either off on a small important detail or are not detailed enough to show where the wire leads to exactly.
Basically, this wire is in so many places I'm concerned about completely removing it, but I think I have nailed. I would like to either put my own wire in it's place coming off of the ignition or reroute the one in the engine bay directly to power my new ECU. What I haven't done is pull apart the engine compartment fuse panel to see how it routes, and I haven't pulled apart the driverside dash either. Can anyone confirm what I have mentioned above or enlighten me on something that I may have missed? Thank you! -------------------- -Jay
