Hey guys, I did search for it and couldn't seem to find a thread on how to replace them. I have a slight amount of oil residue forming in cylinder one. I heard you have to take the valve cover off and replace the gasket and these spark plug oil seals. What are the seals actually called and how are they removed and replaced?

Those little rings that are in the middle. There's 4 of them, 1 for each cylinder. To take off the valve cover you need to take off the 4 nuts holding it. They go underneath the nuts.

You will need a 30mm socket for the nuts over the spark plug tubes. Here in Texas you can get a loaner one from the parts store with a $20 deposit. Its the same size as the axle nuts.

This is all assuming you have a 5SFE motor. Its different on the 7A-FE

alright, and yes it is a 5sfe. On a scale of 1-10, how difficult is doing these gaskets? because Im not the most experienced mechanic, but I have done things like short shifter, header, exhaust, brakes, struts, ect. I just have never really taken apart the engine.

its not bad, but suggest changing your valve cover gasket as well. make sure you also use FIPG in the half moon humps so it doesn't leak. Correct me if Im wrong, special edy has a youtube video for it and there is a lot of other 5sfe valve cover stuff. make sure you torque it correctly. While the valve cover is off make sure you also get a brand new PCV while you're at it.

I got Grey Silicone and just put a small amount of it along the whole valve cover seat... Just for good measure.

glenn ive never had the valve cover off my 3sge, but if its like 3sgte, then those spark plug gaskets are part of the 1 valve cover gasket

you'll have to remove the 2nd part of the intake manifold if possible otherwise the whole thing
