I don't have much luck finding calipers for our cars.
Only:
A1 cardone
Centric
World break resources (WBR)

If I can't find calipers like brembo, stoptech, project mu, wilwood, endless, (list goes on...), I might just go with either Centric or WBR.
Not looking for a BBK either.

Any inputs on the caliper choices?
I see members with non stock calipers n their 6gc... are they OEM just painted or one of the brands above?
I don't want to go the ST205, SS-III, MR2, Lexus route either.

Also, if one of the aforementioned named brands makes calipers for the GT, please tell me.

Don't quote me on this, but I think the 7th gen brakes fit, and are larger than stock.
I've vaguely remember someone saying they upgraded to 7th gen, but someone please correct me if Im wrong.

I believe 7gen calipers needs to be modified to fit. IIRC the disc thickness is different.

for the front,yes.
It's the rears i'm looking to replace.

But I might as well replace the fronts too. There are a lot of good info in that page. Thanks for that page.

for rerar, you wont have much luck, even BBK for the rear are very limited. plus is not a good idea to upgrade the rear braking system without properly matching the fronts.

I'd just say since you are looking to stay OEM, just focus on pads and lines.

I need to replace/rebuild my rear calipers because the seals are shot and the piston is not going back in.
I would like to replace them instead of rebuilding them because the old one looks so rusted and well... old

Yes, for the front i plan on changing the pads and rotors but not the lines.

I just got done reading your 7gen front brakes thread but still debating and need more research.

Ah -- you're looking for remanufactured calipers, then. Those aftermarket brands you mention take OEM calipers, which when you get right down to it are just cast hunks of metal, remove the old bits which wear out, sandblast the caliper, then install new parts. A rebuild kit from Toyota does the same thing, except you have to provide the labour.

After having replaced a couple calipers, I now prefer to rebuild them myself. That way, I know everything is done right -- and OEM quality parts are used (I order from 1sttoyotaparts.com). The parts replacements are generally easy, in part because you can pretty much destroy the bits you're removing since you're replacing them anyway. Hint, if the piston is stuck, try using a Robertson screwdriver through the brake fluid line bolt hole to push/hammer it out. That the calipers are fully disassembled also gives you the opportunity to paint them to prevent rust in future.

Now, all that said, if you want to purchase remanufactured calipers there are three primary flavours. A bare caliper is just the caliper. A semi-loaded caliper means you get the caliper attached to the caliper bracket. A fully-loaded caliper means you get the caliper, attached to the bracket, with pads.

as far as bolt on. you can guy the SS-III twin piston calipers and they bolt onto the gt caliper. Best upgrade I'd say!

yes I read saying you don't want these. these are better than 7th gen GT-S calipers

Just get the Centric remanufactured ones. They're good. I run them on my 7GC, had one rear seize up after sitting for a while but got it warrantied and zero problems since. I also run their rotors, again no problems with lots of abuse.

I saw the ss-III's two piston option but it seems like they are uber rare and this is something I just want to get done asap. Thanks for the input thou.
I will be buying the centric ones and just replace the whole thing. Easier for me and less time consuming.

best bet it to contact all jdm suppliers in the USA and some in canada if necessary. I"m sure you'll find one. patience is key with our 6gc. most just sell the engine/transmission combo and not the clip but they do have the brakes and suspension pieces from ss3

don't have the time to wait around because having breaks that work > having rare breaks

but i will keep that in mind if i do the FRONT breaks.

i just need to get REAR breaks NOW so i have breaks that will actually stop me smile.gif




edit:

BonzaiCelica, this actually brings me to my attention... is the SS-III's/ST205's REAR breaks twin pot a floating or fixed caliper?

IIRC, ST205's FRONT are 4 pot fixed... right? Also are you willing to sell your front calipers without the rotors?

as far as seperating the calipers from rotors. hmm I'm not quite sure yet. I'll get back to you on that in a 2 weeks. just want to see if any interest pops up.

Exactly, that is why i said breaks that work > rare brakes.
I've decided to go your recommended route anyways: buy new seals and maybe the pistons as well and rebuild it myself.

I looked up some st205 front brakes and they look like they are fixed brakes... and so does the back but if anyone can say for sure, it'll be great.

i don't understand what floating even means. the gt4 brakes mount up just like the gt brakes.
