Before I start keep in mind I drive an Impreza RS so 50/50 AWD and front and rear diff's. Now to begin, I will be getting new tires in the up coming months and not sure what I should be purchasing. Last year where I live (North East) we hardly got any snow so I am not sure if the same bad luck will follow for this year. This is why im unsure of what to get, either a good all season tire or a studless winter tire.

When I had my 95 ST I had Blizzak snow tires on the front and all seasons on the back and it handled great but the tires lacks a whole lot of grip come the warmer months.

I've been thinking about winter tires as well... Didn't actually decide yet, but currently I'd take Kumho or Toyo on 16" (205/50R16)... What do you guys think?

Blizzaks are nice but the little extra nubs on them that give them a little bit better grip wear off REAL fast, don't waste your money. If you really want the extra traction, I would say any snow tire would do. Somewhere around 2005 or so when I was living in Rochester, I bought the cheapest snow tires I could find for like $40 a piece and put 4 of them on my Integra. That thing never slipped or slid. I could plow down the road when every one was going slow and my housemate and I never plowed our driveway lol. I would just drive through inches and inches of snow no problem (he has a pick up so he didn't care).

That being said, I had Touring all-seasons on my Legacy two winters ago living in Oswego, the snow capital of NYS, (the last winter we got snow in NY) and did just fine. Not the grip I had with the snows, but I'm a really careful driver and didn't have any close calls. I think you would be just fine with all-seasons as long as you get touring all-seasons and not high performance or Ultra high performance all-seasons

Thanks for the input, the guys on USNYSOC said the same thing so I think ill be going with a good winter tire. Just need to do a bit more research to find a set that also gives nice grip in the summer months, the tires I have on now dont allow me to grip when the car still can. =p
