well salvage yard just called and said that the all trace axles they thought they had are missing. This is the second place to do this to me. And they said they couldn't find any, any where else. Weird.

Ended up picking up a 91 camry axle from advanced auto and managed to get the passenger side axle done.
It measures a little more than 38'' inches from end to end. I don't know if anyone has any notes on hand they might have kept when they were doing their hybrid axles but i'd like to know if 38'' inches is long enough to not need a spacer on the pass. side. Probably be a good idea to get one fabricated anyway. Here is the mr2 outer and 91 camry outer axles side by side ( mr2 on top). It's really not that much longer. 6 bolts and it comes apart Finished pass. Side these pictures are more for making sure i did it right than a "How to" lol. Also my carbon fiber plasti dip set came in. Definitely not what i expected but hey at least it comes off. |

finished both axles. No spacer on pass. side. Ill get one fabricated just in case though. Also primed the hood. Next is the bumper but having trouble finding the paint that would work best on bumpers without cracking. Any suggestions?

test fit the pass side axle into the tranny.
I had a problem with mine and had to have the axle trimmed at a machine shop. -------------------- |

well managed to get the gt four front end put on. Took me a few hours and some investments in new tools but it looks great.
i bought an angle grinder and cut the lower "cell" of the stock crash bar. The only complicated part is putting the stock 96 fog brackets back on but then i realized i didn't need them, so that was good. Modified the stock hood latch by "grinding" and "punching" out the bolt that holds the latch itself and replacing it with the longer gt four latch and putting a thicker bolt through it. Shuts and opens just like it was stock. I don't have any type of welding equipment nor do i know how to weld so that wasn't an option for me. I used the thread on here that shows "how to extend your hood latch without welding". Theres still a tiny tiny gap between the hood and bumper and the front end's not painted yet. Im just going to use several washers to shim the bumper and rubber spacer thing to get rid of the gap and get Maaco to paint the front end next week. They do a good job and Im really not trying to f it up. I got a couple fenders i can practice painting first . Soon Im going to have to make up an official check list before we swap the engine in to make sure Im not struggling to find parts when it comes time. |

You said it perfect man, the car came out great but a real good paint job all comes down to the prep work, as well as a good painter but even a great painter cant hide bad body work. car looks great man! -------------------- st205 powered ss3 coupe

test fit the pass side axle into the tranny. I had a problem with mine and had to have the axle trimmed at a machine shop. i had to do the same thing, had to trim down about 1/8 inch off the tip of the axle so it would go in far enough for the C clip to grab. -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo

i test fit both axles and they seem fine. The shorter one has the snap ring and the longer one, with the bracket fit right in.

thanks dudes!
Ben, I've been waiting for those two, sweet, words. Alex says we can use his work garage. Although that is a ways out there in case we don't get it running right away. I figure we can have two guys buttoning up the 3s while two guys pull the 4a. I can start pulling it the night before if we do it at my house. I wanted to make an official checklist and get a lot of experienced dudes involved to share some tips to make things easier. Like what you would have done differently. Also, please look at the list and let me know what im missing. God I hope this thing starts!! Its an excitement like no other. Well the 4a is down. Crank pulley has seemed to separate from itself it looks like so i will need a new one. Or option B...Pull the 4a. Only problem is Ben and Sam are going away this weekend. I dont need them to pull the 4a but for the 3s install, it'd be nice.

UPDATE!
Alright the 3s is in the car and on all 4 mounts. Ben did a great job with the wiring harness and we immediately got power to the ecu once every thing was plugged in. However, when we went to turn the key for the first time, we got nothing. Now, if it was just me, that would have been it, I probably would have went to my room and cried until there were no tears left. But it didn't phase Ben what so ever. He got out the voltage meter, went back to the wiring schematic and started retracing his steps and started eliminating possible problems. After a couple of hours, Sam showed up to lend a hand and I knew when those two put their heads together, they'd get it to fire up. Together, they pin pointed the problem (hopefully Ben chimes in and describes in better detail what was going on) and it wasn't until after I left for work did they finally get it to crank. (I WASNT THERE TO HEAR IT!! ) Ben said it sounded good tho . All the while, Alex was working on putting his new motor in. He took the time out to call me and offer some advice on what we could try. I wish he was there but he's doing big things himself. When i got home from work, it seemed like my father couldn't wait to tell me that A) they got the car to crank and B) Ben took him for a ride in his Car. Being the car guy my dad is, I knew it would be hard to impress him but after seeing the look on his face when he was describing Bens car, I knew he was impressed. Only thing he could compare it to was his friends, 1300cc B-King Motorcycle he rode once. Ill get some pictures on here hopefully today. We did realize that the ST ac lines wont work. Ill be riding around with no AC for a while. Kinda sucks but at least the engine bay will look cleaner. The intercooler is mounted to the crash bar and hopefully its sitting low enough. I Still need to route the piping and purchase a battery relocation kit. Cant thank these guys enough, It was pretty unbelievable watching them narrow the problem down. I hope to be half as good as them one day, gots a long way to go. BEN DONT FORGET TO EXPLAIN TO THESE GUYS IN BETTER DETAIL WHAT WAS GOING ON!! |

The wiring break down looks like it's due to a wiring disconnect between the st7.5amp fuse and the black wire on the COR/ st relay. Likely due to this car being on its 3rd engine. I will either have to trace the disconnect or repair it. Ecu has power and half of the COR, but without the second half of the COR operable we have no ignition or fuel. There are a few harnesses disconnected behind the fuse box under the driver side dash. Gonna have to tear it all apart and see whats up!
Side note. Im working on a plug and play harness and code killer connectors with youtube instructions. My price is 300$ for the full set. 5sfe conversion in beta. Need a 7a-3s swap (virgin swap: must be original engine) to do to create a quick connect for the 7a swap! -------------------- |

Here is the video link for Bobby's first day running. We've had to knock out several issues. Bobby can elaborate on these, but all I'll say is: A: I can replace a timing belt in 20 minutes B: I hate aftermarket alarms C: I've gotten really good at wiring -------------------- |
