I used to have to do this once in a while. Especially on very cold temperatures like early morning and late night. But my problem was occuring because of my VSS wasn't working. My car was also idling at 1200 before too. But after I replaced my cluster it solved my idling issue and cold start up problems. BUT like I said it was because my VSS was out but I'm guessing yours is good. Just throwing ideas out there.
