I am desperately searching thru my Dad's auto mags of this month to find the article he was describing. It supposively said that Nissan is going to counter Toyota's release of a supercar in 2005 with it's bringing of the Skyline to the US in 2007. Is this true?

No it's not, 350Z is already here...lol

Anyways, my Dad just found it. Page 29 in the January 2004 issue of Automobile. Far right bottom corner. Reads:

Next GT-R U.S.-bound:
Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn confirmed during the Tokyo Motor Show that the next Skyline GT-R supercoupe will come here. Good news: It will be semiaffordable and have 400 horsepower. Bad news: It doesn't debut until 2007.

Yay! I'm definitely finding the first dealership in MN that has one and checking it out.

As much as I love the car, I really hate that they're bringing it to the US. By the time it's out, I'll be graduated from high school, and I mean, it's bad enough that there's two 350Z's, and countless Benz/Bimmer's at my school, but what.. now there will be 16 y/o's in Skylines? C'mon.. leave something for the Japanese.

hells yeah about the skyline. A toyota supercar?? I am a little bit skeptical. Since the lack of performance products they have had in the past 5 or so years, I am a disbeliever. I just hope that they prove me wrong. PROVE ME WRONG TOYOTA!!!

I know it's just a "concept" car, but that new Skyline looks terrible.

Toyota will do something - they aren't investing a lot of money in motorsport and developing performance technology for no reason - they'll be working out new products.. They had a good season in Formula 1 last year.

First off, the basic Skyline is already here, its called the G35. The GT-R will be making a U.S. appearance but its not going to be called a Skyline ne more, and you know its goign to be hella toned down cuz of DOT rules and what not, but I agree with being displeased with the arrival. Theres a mystique about the GT-R and having it here will make it just another car.

Not everyone lives in a place like that. I know I don;t, yeah there's an Evo and two STi's...but nothing too spectacular.

And about it being toned down...I doubt it. Yes, it won't be as spectacular as the Japanese version but it will still be a supercar. Honda has it's new NSX coming out, Toyota has it's new car when the Celica is gone, Nissan wants to step up to the challenge. The JDM Skyline will still be a fabled car, because liek you said it will have more power. Just think of the market for JDM engines too. If you think this is a bad thing, I think you're nuts. The release of an actual skyline-esque automobile that is turbocharged and all wheel drive is an awesome deal. I can't wait.

yea the G35 is technically a skyline...
toyota isnt going to make anything to rival it, theyve pretty much surrendered the sports car market, but theyre doing perfectly fine for themselves with the cars they are making.
the new GT-R should be interesting, it will probably be more closely related to the G35 styling, just rebadged and probably a different motor, or atleast a few tricks to suck some more HP from the current G35 motor. either way nissan is really looking good in the sports car category.

all they do these days is formula and toyota atlantic... nothing using their current production models. if anyone does race toyotas in a series it is an independant team, not toyota or TTE. oh and also the celebrity racing things they do with the 7th gen celicas... but then again toyota is supposedly getting rid of the celica too.... so who knows...

I think they'll leave the GT-R with a Nissan badge but it wont have anything saying Skyline on it.
Toyota's aim is pretty apparent with the introduction of Scion. They're aiming towards a younger audience who are more concerned with gas mileage than power. Honestly, i think thats a mistake. Young people want looks and power, not 50miles to the gallon.
And whens the last time you saw an NSX? They're a couple around here but thats CT and NY, and they're not new.

Yeah I don't understand why toyota is backing out of the performance side of the car scene.

IMO they should do something to try and steal some of the thunder from the WRX, Mazdaspeed Protege, and EVO. They already have a great engine in the 3s-gte, or 2JZ. Why not upgrade one of those engines, and drop it back in an all-wheel drive car. If they wouldn't have discontinued with either of those engines it would be miles above all the cars I listed above. I do not understand what toyota is trying to do. They need to give us something.
