I just turned 40 but I don't own a Celica. I'm here to learn more about my daughter's '95 GT. She is 17 and has had the car for about a year now. This is her first car.

95 GT, probably the best first car you can have!

There isnt even any need to elaborate. "What was your first car?" "A ninety-five GT".

^ As an ST owner, I'd like to disagree, but it's kind of true...OBDI means less emissions hassle and more ease of tuning all around, and the '95 is the newest of that kind.

Also have to disagree. The GT really is kind of pointless. The gas mileage goes to hell for an extra 20 hp. The V6 Solara gets the same mpg as a GT Celica. At least then you get an extra 80 hp and a bigger car.

^^ You'd just have to drive one tongue.gif I lost 3 mpg when I upgraded to a GT, that's hardly "going all to hell." And 20 hp is a lot in a small car like these, especially considering its not just 20 peak hp but 20 hp across the rev band. Not to mention the 30 ft lb jump in torque, which is handy. It's not what's on paper, but how the 5S pulls on the 7A. Totally worth it. But I'm not knocking ST's. I'd have an ST and still be in a proper car well before I'd land myself in a long list of other cars!

On topic: Got my first Celica when I was 16, now 22. So 6 years, in round numbers. By my calculations in this thread, that makes me exceptionally average.

EPA 28/34 to EPA 22/29 is going to hell. tongue.gif Mainly the city that hurts you. I just couldn't justify a GT with so many V6 or high output I4 cars that get the same or better mpg. Then again, if it had been up to me I'd be in a Civic VX forgetting what petrol was. laugh.gif

Im not crying about a couple MPG's. I got better brakes, better stock strut bar, better engine mounts (I'm going 3s), and more torque than you tongue.gif. By the time you buy all those parts you will lose the money you gained from the gas mileage.

And the 5s is a beast. I've had this motor from 145,000 to where it is now 222,000 and she still does work. With full suspension a GT can be an extremely fun DD. I hoenstly wouldn't want ANY less power as this seems to be a good minimum. Hasn't ever seemed pointless to me.

Mine's lighter.

I wouldn't mind the extra power, but I would miss the 7A's character and efficiency.

You have to realize, I'm a super cheap bastard. If I could get away with running a still in my backyard for making ethanol I would. laugh.gif
