Hey guys I'm thinking about putting a cold air intake system on the car and was just wondering the setups that you guys have.
I don't know whether to run piping down to the front bumper or just do a basic S shape. Another question I have is besides the noise a pod filter makes is there any other benefits in doing this??? Thanks for your time. |

A good setup can provide more power. Something like the Celica you're only looking at maybe 3-4 hp towards the upper rpm range though. Cone filters generally have more surface area than panel filters, so there is that. If anything most people do it for the sound anyway.

I think your best bet would be to have a cone filter, in the engine bay, with a heat shield / box around it, and then run a separate pipe from the box down into the fender. This way you don't have as much of a chance of sucking up water as you would with have the piping going straight from the intake manifold to the fender with the cone sitting somewhere in the fender

I've got a cone filter SRI in mine. Beside it being more responsive (really not that noticeable either) theres not really any benefit. I guess the sound is cool, makes it sound pissed, but you really dont hear it till around 3grand. If you ever make it up to 5.9grand (which I wouldn't do-bad solenoids made me get caught in a gear while passing) it almost sounds like a turbo spooling up. Haha kinda embarrassing actually. Smoke em if you got em but if I could go back I pbly wouldn't have spent the money on it and saved up for something better. CAI or SRI it really isn't that noticeable until your motor actually needs a ton of air.

Yeah, the intake kits for V8 cars does make a NOTICEABLE difference. Some are close to an extra 20hp on the dyno.

yupp its really just an aestetic and sound plus. No real power notice. A small n/a engine can only do so much stock. it was never designed to do more

Ok, thanks for that guys I won't fork out big money to run piping down to the front bumper then, I will still put a pod filter on with a heat shield though. Thanks heaps!

You could copy the K&N kit. It has a short ram set up, then places a pipe next to the filter and runs to the front of the car. That way it runs cool air from the front of the car to the filter, and don't have to worry about getting water into the engine.

Run it to your A/C vent, then it will be a true cold air intake.

Yes, cookies for you! I'd think based on how physics works it wouldn't, something about can't output more energy than what was input. Though, could probably make a cold air box and put some dry ice in the bottom of it... How cold is too cold? Only one way to find out.

I have one in my chevelle, its for the fuel though. I have something similar in my chevelle, its for the fuel though. It runs in a coil through like a cork enclosure. Ive never used it, thats how it has always been, but i thought it was a cool idea
