I was wondering on how your intakes affected your gas mileage because my friend said that it ruines your gas mileage and I didn't see this in my car so I was wondering on what affect an intake has.

Thanx

it acually helps you gas millage. i remember when i had my intake on and was getting like 320 miles per full tank. meaning i would run it until the emptank light comes on. but now that i dont have the intake in, i get about 290 at full tank.

so i think it helps. It also depends on how a person drives.

Well if the intake is actually doing what its supposed to do and getting more air through your intake system into the engine then it will hurt your gas mileage since your ecu will adjust the air/fuel mixture to compensate. I think thats your vaf sensor that measures air intake? Thats my take on it anyways.

Most mods that increase power will effect gas mileage considering alot of mods involve increasing air/fuel mixtures, atleast the effective ones.

[COLOR=red]It ruin is gas mileage because an intake will give a little HP inturn cuasing lead foot syndrome.

Nope. There won't be all that much effect at lower throttle openings where the ECU is in closed loop mode. When you floor it, the ECU goes to open loop and doesn't compensate at all. There will be no change in the map, therefore no change in the mileage.

Thanks for the info man, I was just looking from a logical stand point and what I know about that stuff, thanks for clearing it up! biggrin.gif But from what you said for daily driving at lower rpm's there would be some difference?? or just so small a difference it doesnt even matter??

Yeah. Gas mileage is so hard to measue really accurately and consistently that you won't be able to tell.

CelimanST

I agree as well... When I first got my intake, I would floor my gas just so I could hear the intake... which basically caused an increase in gas consumption...
