 Same Clutch - 155k, Is it me? |

My 96 GT is about to turn 155k and I have not had to replace the original clutch. I drive the car pretty gently - but still, this seems too good to be true. How about you guys - what kind of miles do you get out of your stock clutch?

Mine went soft at about 100,000 miles...My car will have a Clutch Masters stage one clutch kit and a JUN lightweight flywheel when I get it back.

Well, you said it yourself. Since you drive your car gently, there shouldn't be any reason for your clutch to be going bad and slipping. My clutch lasted about 120,000 before it started slipping... but that's because I was driving my car hard. |

well don't be shocked... i seen some of my family members go well over 200k miles with no problems... if you don't rev up and have nice quick shifts(tap and shift) your clutch can last the life of the car...

what does it feel like when ther clutch starts slipping? If I'm not mistaken I stil have the factory clutch on my car and I'm at 173000 miles and sometimes the engine has little power jumps in first in second

When the clutch slips you notice a sudden lack of acceleration compared to the RPMs of your engine. Also it may be harder to get the car in gear.

When it starts to slip... believe me... you'll know.  For example... at 10 MPH, if you drop your car in 2nd or 3rd (I know, no would do this in real life, but this is just an example), and floored it, your car will rev up and the wonderful aroma of burnt clutch will dissipate throughout your car. i'm at 142xxx with stock clutch. althought i've only had it for about 5k miles, so i can't claim being responisble.

im going to guess with most of you that hasnt had your car to long, and are that high in milage, the prev owner prolly replaced it at some point, most go around 100-120 good driving or not....but then there are some that are really lucky

My gf's dad's 88 Sentra went about 220,000 miles on the original clutch AND timing belt. I don't know HOW THE HELL his timing belt lasted that long... but it certainly did. LOL It died last year under my possession. |

About the clutch slipping, mine is doing it right now, you just push it into gear and when you let out of the clutch and it is fully engaged, and you aren't going anywhere while your RPM's are going up then there is a problem. The clutch is made from a friction material that is similar to that found on brake pads and when that material is worn from its contact wiht the flywheel, it will start to slip, like when you loose brake power when the pads get worn, same concept all physics, just so ya know

I bought my gt-s from my uncle, and he didn't change the clutch. I made 25000km in semi-hard driving and it is still the original clutch at 197000km. I guess with more power, the clutch would wear faster...
