Hi there, people. I need some really urgent help in order to find any machine shop in Bradenton, FL area that can be capable of disassembling a 3S-GTE engine properly and packaging the parts in boxes.
I bought a JDM 3S-GTE plus AWD tranny, all axels, diff and spindels via Canadian market (vtec_motors seller in eBay). The engine and all stuff are already in the bed of my friend's truck in Bradenton, FL, just waiting to be delivered to some mechanic. We tried to deliver it at some people but all them said they can't do the job because they don't know this engine and were afraid of breaking stuff. This engine will be shipped to Brazil (where I do live). Before you question why don't I ship it assembled let me explain that (weirdly) engines can be shipped assembled to Brazil but the buyer must pay high customs taxes (I mean almost 300% of the product price) and it can take 2 years for it being fully freed by government to ride. So if I send the split engine it will be cheaper and faster, even If I need to rebuilt it. Here in Brazil I bought a Celica GT 1995(really rare around here) and I intend to make a GT-Four swap. I know it's difficult and will worth a bunch of bucks but I'll handle it. This car will be a track day/drag racing car to be upgraded in the future. Sorry about english mistakes. Can anyone help me? |

I'd suggest taking the engine apart yourself and ship the pieces individually. It really isn't that hard to pull apart. I think you'd find that it is pretty difficult to "break" your engine while taking it apart if you have any technical know how, which I'm assuming you do if you plan to use this engine for track use.

I'd suggest taking the engine apart yourself. He's not local to the engine, that is the issue at hand. This post has been edited by SwissFerdi: Aug 8, 2012 - 11:05 AM -------------------- '97 ST \ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+ [sold 10/18]

Does that also include disassembling the transmission, and rear diff? I would just say pay all shipping costs..which could be quite interesting because there will be MANY boxes. Throw me around 300 hundred USD and I could make it happen. Boxes, tape, and baggies for bolts etc are cheap. Have all the tools. They come apart pretty quick, its putting it back together is where the fun comes in. |

But let me contact him and see what does he can do to deliver this engine to you. Or do you have any truck and time to go get the engine in Bradenton? The engine is in a pallet placed in his truck, packed the same way it came from Canada. Actually It's not a full disassembly. I just need the head, pulleys, oil pump, water pump, turbo, piping, wiring, manifolds and other parts linked to the block be taken apart from it. So the tranny doesn't need to be fully disassembled but just be taken apart from the engine block. The diff, spindels, axels and other "smaller" stuff won't be disassembled. After packaging the parts must go to Bradenton again. This friend of mine exports small airplanes from US to the brazilian market in containers shipped from Miami, so the shipping charges wouldn't be so high because my 3S-GTE and other parts would come here together with airplane stuff. So, any price changes after those new information? Thanks for helping. You can't imagine how i'm grateful for your answers and patience. The feeling of being possible to have a converted Celica GT to Celica GT-four in Brazil is awesome! It's my dream project car. |

Ah having a shipping option like that is very nice, and will save you alot of coin.
Unfortunally I do not have means to pick it up, or a lift gate for that matter. I do have a hoist I could use to lift if out of the truck if the truck is not amazinly high off the ground. Sounds good on the dissemble, I would have to stay firm on the price though. It is a fairly deep messy task. To clean up proper I would have to use some of those funds for such. Not really a business, just a guy that has some knowledge of the engine disassembly, and the tools to do it. How fast are you looking to get it done? |

I didn't talk to my friend yet because he is an airplane pilot and he is flying from Florida to Brazil. But he owns some truck like a Ford F150. Not too tall at all. But I think I would have to pay some company to deliver it to you. I know you don't own a mechanics service or repair shop but your knowledge must be deep enough to make the job properly since your reputation here is the highest and you write in many 6gc.net posts. So I trust you, man.
The price is good since it seems you are going to make a real good service. I don't need the job made so fast. I need you to make it just as perfect as you can. How much time do you think you can do it? 2 weeks? It's quite good for me. |

Sounds good!
Yes I would say 2 weeks would give me a good amount of time to take care of the task. About 1 1/2 weeks to disassemble then the remainder to properly pack it up for shipping. Delivery truck, or your friends truck should be fine. It would be going to my storage unit, which is a secure area with gated access. Also would be easier to deliver to that location, and give me time to work on during my normal work week. Just let me know when things get rolling, and I'll write a contract for the service. Always good to have things documented! |

Excellent! I'll keep you informed when I get any new information. The contract will be nice too in order to officialize the service. Thanks again

How much do you think it will cost to deliver the engine from Bradenton to you in Gainesville? Can you take pictures of the entire disassembly steps in order to help me assembling it again?

Looking at my current load of items to do, it may be a few months before I can tackle this task.
That has been why it has taken a while to respond. Trying to move projects around, but I'm loaded up with work right now, and my own project I'm working on. I would be able to most likely do this in January right after the new year. The picture thing I'm iffy about, that is a bit of work added. There are alot of pieces, and alot of pictures would be produced. It sounds easy, but each time you have to stop, clean your hands, take a picture, document it, upload it...just alot of extra work, when I could just print you out a manual with everything already there. For a carrier, just search around on the web for freight carriers. Prices seem to change alot, so I havn't had a definate one to use. Maybe RTL?
