Hey guys I just recently installed my symtech FCD, and thought that I was calibrating it properly, but after a few test drives this clearly wasn't the case. I had a situation where I leaned out under boost (I let off the gas immediately), and after some more adjustment all it would do is hit fuel cut. The adjustment screw on this thing will just spin and spin and spin in either direction (I was under the impression that it would stop at full left and full right rotation at some point). The green light on the device comes on in the same spot of the rotation every time, and then shuts off at the same rotation every time.

I ran a line from my compressor to the vacuum hose on my map sensor, and held it with 20 psi, but this thing is so finiky that I can't get the adjustment voltage right. AFter reading what other members have posted, I'm under the impression that I need to set the voltage between 4.10-4.17v. Do i actually need to blast the map sensor with 20 psi to do this? Or can I just turn the calibration knob and use a multimeter until is reads 4.10-4.17v?

Any help or tips would be appreciated. This thing is driving me insane.

IIRC I had mine at 3.8ish.
You need the 20psi in there and use a multimeter. I used a bicycle pump when doing mine.

Where did you put the nozzle for the bicycle pump?

I'm having a weird problem. The car will boost to 20psi no problem, but at around 600 rpms it will hit fuel cut and bounce right back. Its really intermittent, so I can't really figure out what I'm doing wrong here?

I put the vac hose from the map sensor to the pump, fit and held it perfectly.

Did you have a basket ball needle or anything like that on the end?

I used something like this

I got it at Walmart. Hand pump with a gauge. The vac hose from the bottom of the map fit right in the hole, then used the lever to hold it right in, easy as pie.
Pumped it until it was at 16-17psi on the gauge and noted the voltage the map was giving (without the symtech). Then pumped it to 20 and used the symtech to bring the voltage at 20 to what 16-17 said. Like I said, I think it was 3.8-3.9 but there are a lot of variables like atmospheric pressure depending on your elevation, the season, ect.

I've heard st205 ecu fuel dumps at 16psi (but do your own research this is just hearsay)

Anyways, you want to allow the ecu to fuel dump before clamping voltage,

also beware the engine is noisy at 6000 and the knock sensor probably wont pick up knock, also the narrowband o2 sensor wont pick up **** at WOT

Was getting frustrated with mine. I finally tried Batman's method and that worked for me. With bike pump at 17psi on boost gauge, l got 4.01volts on the multimeter and 4.17v at 18psi. I then dialed the FCD to 4.01v and mine is working now. I think every car is different, because l tried the settings betweent the 4.10 to 4.17volts and kept getting fuel cut.

Great to hear.
How's the car running ? How do you like the clutch ?

It's different because of elevation, atmospheric pressure, things like that. Summer is different than winter, you might need to adjust again next season.

Oh man, Car is awesome!!. Couldn't be more happier. Should have done the 3rd gen swap the first time. Everything on the 3rd gen is just very refined. The clutch is very good as well. So far its the best one yet with no chatter like i used to have on previous clutches. Usually by now I would start having lots of chatter which most of of the time is a prelude to failure. My wife though does not like the feel of the heavy pressure plate which takes some getting used to.

whats a safe psi you can run with the fcd, do you have any supporting mods like water injection or something? is it safe to hit 20 pounds?

Not sure about what psi is safe for the 3rd gen per se, but l do have mine set at 21psi with water injection set to come on at 15 psi. Have top mount intercooler's bottom heat shielded/wrapped, and the intercooler water pump set to run continuously with bigger aftermarket heat exchanger.
Hope it helps.

I run 20psi injected from 5psi to 21 psi. My aem is progressive and increases at a linear rate with boost.
