It has come to my attention that there are a number of cars that are what you might call practical that aren't seen everyday. For instance where i live in puerto rico, what i call normal cars like our 6gc isn't seen everywhere but i every now and then i see a mkIV supra.
Exotic cars a see often in the street: Supra rx-7 GTR s2000 350 370 Z Mr2 Normal cars which i rarely see anymore 6gc 240sx Miata eclipse These cars are more or less the same vintage as a integra, civic, corolla, camry, sentra etc but i rarely see them. Is it only here or is this same thing happening elsewhere? I just find it odd to see a car like the supra more often than a 6gc. -------------------- 1980 mitsubishi champ- stolen

Never see Supra, RX-7, MR2, S2000, Celica, 240SX, Miata, or GTR. 350/370 will see every now and then. Eclipse, Civic, Mustang, Integra, and all your various sedans are the norm around here.

Well then something weird is going on over here because i see the exotics more often than i see the normal grocery getters i listed. I guess i should lucky for the oportunity to run into these cars on a daily basis but its just disturbing that i don't see the inexpensives imports running around.

I see a mixture of both of those lists but there are a few from the first list that have never really been around where I live to begin with. 6gc's are definitely disappearing. I must have seen 7 or 8 yesterday on my road trip and a were driven by the same type of person:

I see every single car on that list at LEAST once a day, minus the gtr, but those I see at least once every 2 weeks. This is driving on the street, not even at meets.

You dont see them anymore because they all ended up in Texas. We keep all the cars for ourselves down here.

It's because I live in redneck hell. Everyone either drives a lifted truck or some other people mover for all their children. The only common coupe is the Mustang, and those are the 93-04 that're driven by douches who think their 150hp and 3,100 pound car with a slushbox is the fastest thing ever. They're just as bad, if not worse, than the Honda kids... Now what is fun is making fun of them for my economy car being faster than their "sports car".

Jeez don't get me started with the dang honda kids. Thanx to my wife's job, im forced to drive her 84 civic hatchback. Im not content driving around in that thing, im 26 years old and driving a kiddie ride. And is it me or do honda's have race car written on it somewhere? Because it seems that at every red light, a douche in a honda wants to race revving their engines. It's really annoying. The only good thing i can say about my wife's civic is the great fuel mileage i get in it. 5 dollar's of gas is like 15 for these little things.

Yeah I don't get it. Guess all the idiot kids think they're in the Fast & the Furious or Need for Speed, and all the aftermarket for Honda doesn't help. Every time one of them says "VTEC yo!" I want to punch them in the face and say "VVT bitch!" Honda is far from the only car having variable valve timing in their engines, why they think Honda is so god damned special I'll never know. I've thought about owning one, but damn if all the dickheads didn't just ruin it for me.

I never really understood why the aftermarket embraced the civic so much and not so much our celicas. What does the civic have over the celica? Style? No. More power? No. What does that econo box have?!?!?!

Lightness, lower price, and mass production.

I know I've said before and I'll say it again, the 6gc is unheard of in my parts. It's a mystery like they all vanished. They're not on the roads and not in the junk yards. I have seen 3 other 6gc in the last year, 2 nice shape verts and one SUPER beat ST hatch with a 2x4 for a rear bumper. I rather like having a car that you don't see. Problem is getting used parts if you need them. I would have to source them through here, ebay or a junk yard in another state. That being said: Supra - See a few MKIII's (neighbor for one) never seen a MKIV outside of a car show RX-7 - See a few 1st & 2nd gens around, only seen one 3rd gen outside of a car show but I see it all the time GT-R - Never seen one in person at all S2000 - Starting to see less and less of these 350/370Z - See these all over, including their Infinity counter part MR2 - Can't remember the last time I saw one, but used to see them quite often 3000GT/Stealth - See about one a month 300ZX - See 2 or 3 times a month (thought there are a couple running around my town so it's hard NOT to see them) 5gc - See one 2 or 3 times a month 6gc - See one 2 or 3 times a year 7gc - See one 2 or 3 times a week 240sx - Have a couple friends with them, but otherwise a car you never see around here Miata - See all over, usually the older ones rather than the newer ones. Eclipse - Unfortunately, I still see DSM's around ... I just threw up in my mouth a little bit Actually starting to see less and less Civic's and Integra's as well. The "tuner" scene has, thankfully to some degree, really died around here. The only unfortunate repercussions to that is few to no import car shows locally and no one to really sit around and talk cars with anymore. I'm going to take a stab and say that the scene isn't just dying most everywhere, it's in cardiac arrest. Some of my friends went to a couple shows out of state this summer that are usually some of the East Coasts BIGGEST Import shows (Carlisle Imports, Hot Import Nights, etc) and they said they all sucked. It's getting extremely hard to find anyplace that sells a general import performance magazine and when you do, they may have ONE. On one hand it's kinda nice to drive around and not have every punk with a 2 door think they have a sports car and PepBoys the **** out of it, but it's sad to not see the nice cars really either anymore. 10 years ago I could go park in the local BK parking lot on any given night and it would be filled with other tuned cars and we would all just get out, talk cars, eat, have a mini car show, blow stuff up. Now, I'm lucky if I get a punk kid in a lowered on stock steel wheels, rusty, 1995 four door Accord, with the SH!TTIEST bumble bee sounding PepBoys muffler and a pizza delivery light on the top trying to race me on a two lane street in the city (Happened just yesterday). I actually get kinda sad thinking about how much fun I used to have and how it's no more. I wonder if a lot of the reason is a lot of the cars that are/were "tuner" worthy/friendly are smashed up or rusted to hell in a junk yard and they're just physically not available to people anymore and there was such a large gap where most manufacturers weren't really making any vehicles aimed at performance. Most of the ones that were, were very expensive to the majority market of people who would want them (ie, STI, EVO, RX8, S2000, 350Z) all over $30K starting price, that's over $600/m payment at 5% interest @ 60/m plus higher insurance. Maybe there will be a resurgence when these cars are all 15 years old and the younger generation can afford them like the old Civics and Integra's. The reason you see less cars is cash for clunkers. They took every single one of those cars and poured some kind of glass/salt chemical in the engine then ran the engine till the chemical solidifies and the the motor is destroyed. Theres no telling how many drivable, fixable and restorable cars got destroyed by the US government.

Cash for clunkers was the worst thing ever... Completely ****ed over people that could barely afford a car to begin with.

Lol I dunno what Obama was thinking, steal from the poor and give to the rich. If you cant afford a new car it only further screws you over. 700,000+ RUNNING, DRIVING and registered cars off the streets. We could of given them to people in China or something.
Go watch some videos on youtube of perfectly fine, beautiful cars being destroyed and I promise you it will make you sick. |

Now one modification to the cash for clunkers would've made it the best thing ever. Instead of destroying all the cars, they should've been given to those that needed them. There are plenty of Americans that could've used them. Like I don't know, families that can't afford to buy their child a car? That was me during cash for clunkers, you talk about ****ing infuriated. Couldn't afford a car myself, parents couldn't afford to buy me one either. Yet there were all these cars being traded in and destroyed... Still ****ing pisses me off to no avail...

You forgot the fact that they took your money in the form of taxes and gave it to those richer people so that they could get a brand new car. |
