So...so far my 7afe is always burning oil and such... has 227xxx miles... Now it seems like 7afe is a flawed engine that will leak oil... so which engine is best... now I know ya`ll always say 3gste...besides that one... is a 7gen celi gts engine betteR? or should I look for a 6gen gt swap? whats the cheaper/easier swap? And longevity engine? I want more power but my wallet is just wanting a cheap swap... I dunno...

Put a 2jz in it! Definately the easiest and cheapest option

Do you have 5k+ to drop, or a returning disposable income?

7A-FE is hit and miss. Mine has 190K miles and no problems. Ehh, unless you're wanting to swap in a 3S-GTE, 3S-GE BEAMS, or 1MZ-FE best option is another 7A-FE. Or could get the 7th generation Celica, has 140hp and gets 27/33(auto was rated at 29/36 so I'd imagine the manual could get that to) and weighs 2,425 pounds. Downside with the 7GC is engine bay is cramped.

If my 7afe gets to 227k miles and the biggest issue it has is burning/leaking oil, I will be a happy camper.
I'd replace it with another 7afe or rebuild yours if all you are looking for is reliable transportation. Only swap if you want more power and the extra power is worth the extra cost/effort to you. |

Just look up some pictures of the 7GC engine bay and you'll see what I mean.

the 7th gen is not hard to work on at all. at least IMO. in fact i think they are easier than a 6th gen. the cheapest fix is to just rebuild your 7A. the cheapest swap will be a V6. you can buy a complete 1MZ with the 5 speed tranny, ECU and harness for about 1000. a 3S-GTE will cost you about 2500. both engines will require the same work to get it installed.

3VZ-FE, 1MZ-FE, 3MZ-FE, and 2GR-FE
The 3vz is old and not worth getting when you can put a 1mz in. The 1mz and 3mz are a 3.0L and 3.3L respectively and are around 200hp. They are in about 1995 to 2005 Camrys, Lexus ES-300s, Sienna minivans Solaras and Avalons. The 2GR replaced the 1MZ/3MZ, its a 3.5L producing 266hp+. Its in 2006s and newer but its much more expensive than the MZ engines. you can get a wrecked camry or ES-300 for $500 to a grand This post has been edited by Special_Edy: Sep 19, 2012 - 3:09 PM |

no drawback at all. you can get a 2002 Solara 1MZ with the 5 speed trans for about 1000 bucks. thats also with the ECU and harness.

A stock Celica GT transmission will, not an ST. Mind you, its torque that kills transmissions so the e153 would be choice behind a V6.
