Today was another fun day, I installed a new alternator before heading off to work thankfully it was still under warranty so I didn't have to pony up the cash.
I've been inching closer and closer to 200k miles on the odometer, and it seems like my car is trying to bankrupt me to get there. 2,000 Miles to Go,. Repairs in the last 5,000 miles New Radiator New Steering Knuckle New Brakes (pads/rotors all 4) New Timing Belt New Water Pump, Tensioners, Timing Belt Still Needed: New Tires New Tie Rod End New Ball Joint New Clutch Plate How many of you are approaching 200k miles or 321,869 km? Obviously the repairs I'm doing now are the maintenance items I've neglected the past 50k miles, but hay, that happens. Did you experience the same flood of repairs? |

Did you experience the same flood of repairs? i took my car to 206k, wrecked it, then had to fix the whole front end and only had to replace the radiator and timing belt.... the steering knuckle, ive replaced it before, and that was only because i didnt tighten the bolt in the middle which resulted in some play. Radiator is something you hopefully replace once every 200k thats if your thermostat goes out. If i were you i would replace yor thermostat if you already havent. |

Mine has 186xxx and I'm on my third radiator, third heater core, third engine, 4th clutch, second suspension setup and a partridge in a pear tree. Maybe its just my driving though.... I tend to beat the snot out of these crappy little 5s engines. -------------------- ~bloodMoney

If you go with OEM parts you probably won't need to change them again for a while as when you go for jobber, you'll end up with a broken part maybe 2-3years later. Luck sometimes plays it's role though haha. |

Forcing a 115hp 5S to keep up with 350+hp GT4/MR2s down the Tail of the Dragon every year doesn't help either....

Almost there, 198,760 today,.. and haven't had to do any work in over a week.... go, go,.go!
I'm thinking once it's over the 200k hurdle I'll start working on the body,. So far I've just tuned the wheels, engine, and sound system, and I've had it for a few years.... 200k will earn her a nice new body kit and paint job. The other thing I wondered on this is how many tools does the average member carry in their vehicle with them, "Just In Case"? I've got enough stuff that I could do just about anything, short of swapping the motor, on the side of the road. Included are a full socket set, 1/4", 3/8" with normal and deep wells, full complement of wrenches, and ratchet wrenches, a small mallet, a pry bar, four way, hydraulic floor jack. I'm sure I carry a lot more tools than the average guy, but again I commute 135 miles round trim everyday. |

I've still only taken my motorcycle down the Dragon,... need more HP before I bother taking the car. Yea... I tend to do too much dumb crap to not be protected by a chassis. I'm sure I carry a lot more tools than the average guy, but again I commute 135 miles round trim everyday. I have a toolbag filled with all the hand tools that I need to pull the motor out of the car, minus the cherry picker. I also usually carry my battery powered 1/2" & 3/8" impact guns along with an LED light and electric ratchet. I'm a little neurotic. -------------------- ~bloodMoney

I've been lucky, other than the parts I listed above that I need to replace, I've now gone beyond the 200k mark, I think I'm at 202k now. It's looking like the tie-rod ends, ball joint and an oil change slated for this weekend.
