So first off, I've been using this forum a lot for reference and information in the past few months and it's a great tool for anyone who owns a Celica, so thanks to everyone who puts up good information.
I'm in the process of rebuilding my 7afe. It had 136000 on it when i pulled it out, but it hardly looked like 30000 were on it once i opened it up except for some oil sludge. I purchased a V-5 vortech f-trim to put on after i get the car running again, but I figured I'd share a few pics of the rebuild and update some more when I get to the fun stuff.
Pulled the engine in Feb, (i travel around the world a lot, so I've been off and on with this project) brought block and head to my machinist. Block only needed a fine hone. Head didn't need much, but had a valve job done just to freshen it up since 16 yrs on the valve springs is probably enough. Started rebuilding on Wednesday and relaxed today, I might finish rebuilding tomorrow.


Block painted and piston one reinstalled.

i have thought about this because of instant boost and great low rpm tq. this may turn out to be a start of a whole new way to power the 7a"S..... great work man keep us up to date

As far as I've seen the stock cams are designed for low rpm power and efficiency, that's part of why the 7a gets sluggish in the high RPMs. Grinding the cams is going to give you better power in the upper RPM range. I don't think it'll do too much for low RPM hp and torque.

I'm very interested to see how this'll turn out, I was under the impression that a supercharger on a 7A was impossible due to the positioning of the intake manifold.

the v5 might be a little big for the 7a, but props on building the brackets to make it all fit. it's a good blower.

Quick update. Yesterday I started and timed the engine without any problems. I'll try to get a couple pictures of the car up in the next few days. Once I get the car back on the road I'll break in the engine then start installing the blower.

i heard a 7A-GZE had been done before using pars from the 7A-FE and the 4A-GZE, but i suppose you're trying for a 7A-FZE?

I've put about 90 miles on it since rebuild. I also installed my megan coilovers. Very happy with them. I had a header on the car when I put the engine back in, but I decided to take it off until I have more time to mess with the exhaust. I plan to go 2.5". Current setup is stock with supertrapp muffler. I'll probably start messing with the blower in a month or so.

Quick update on this. Haven't given up on the project, just on hold for awhile because I'm in the process of relocating to NC. Just installed a new exhaust system.

In order to make the Vortech fit nicely, I need to make a solid motor mount for the passenger side that attaches further back on the frame to open up some room and help with the supercharger mounting. Then the relay box and windshield washer filler tube need to be moved (which is simple). It might just fit under the hood after that.

Nice choice of wheels! I dunno how to explain it, but they flow nicely with the body lines. I can't wait to see a supercharged 7A, that'll be cool.

Thanks, they're 15x7 Drag Dr-17's. They're like 14 lbs I think. Discounttire.com sells them for 100 a piece including the hubcentric rings and lug nuts.

Haha thanks, I'll keep that in mind when looking for replacements. Right now I have 17x7.5 Drag DR-19's.
