ECU damage is possible, but I believe the fuses are there for a reason. Remove and reattach the battery cables and clamps(the energy probably severed the connection for only 12V) and replace the fuses that are damaged. Make sure to check the fusible links(big square fuses) too, they are probably the culprits.

Battery is fried, check fuses, and replace the ground wire to the battery, as it is likely melted a bit.

Battery is fried, check fuses, and replace the ground wire to the battery, as it is likely melted a bit. I think all the wiring circuits should be covered by a fusible link. The fusible link will always blow before the wires get damaged. On our cars they are conveniently packaged like fuses- Of course, the Positive (B+) wire to the starter likely isnt protected by a fusible link. And I do agree with 95CelicaST, have the battery checked. You were having to jump start the car to begin with so that tells me that the battery was already dead, before you reversed the polarity. Autoparts stores will check the battery for free usually. This post has been edited by Special_Edy: Nov 11, 2012 - 1:53 PM |
