So I'm only using my distributor for the pickup that is inside it since I have the Autronic SM4 EMS and the Jetta 1.8T individual coils. Yesterday I took off the distributor cap and rotor to see if I can modify my current cap so most of the distributor cap is out of the way. If I hack it up and seal it off with silicone and a round plastic disk then it might look a little bad, but it will still mount and be the correct size. I've also thought about finding a clear plastic cup that is a hair over 3" and hacking it up, but then heat becomes an issue. I really want to get this bulky distributor out of the way. Does anyone have any ideas other than what I mentioned?

I think there's a manufacturer that makes a blanking-off cap for the distributor like what you want.

You should browse some on mr2oc.com, there's some people there that have it on their 2nd and 3rd gen 3S builds with EMS.

Convert it to a crank trigger wheel.

In the meantime you can probably put the cap on upside down so that the plug holes point down. That would look better.

I tried turning it upside down, that was the first thing I tried. It bumps the heater hose on the coolant neck, and it won't fit on upside down anyway because the mount hole is offset.

You can build and design or CNC a block off plate. Its getting the equipment which poses the problem.

actually a friend of mine has access to a CNC. Hmm, I might ask him how much it would cost for him to machine me one. Otherwise I was just going to round out one of the mount holes so that I can flip it upside down, then just start shaving off plastic, shorten it, and epoxy a round disk from the inside to cover the hole.

There is an OEM one you can use from a camry or something. Look on MR2oc.
But once you remove the distributor, youll need a way to get a crank/cam signal.

I have the OEM toyota seal that fills that hole, I pulled it off of a 98 camry with a blown engine that I did a swap in at work. But as you said I need the signal still, I've already wired in the Autronic to the distributor since I had a dist, and I don't want to buy a crank trigger/gear setup. If I have to I'll just hack up the old dist cap and leave it like that.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the OEM crank trigger setup can be used. 98+ camry uses a crank trigger with a wheel and sensor mounted on the oil pump.

it does, it was on the front on the bottom of the timing belt cover near where our 3sgte oil filters mount. I think it just picks up the teeth from the toothed crank gear. I don't know if I can use a lower timing belt cover with the crank gear an pulley setup from a 5s camry. I know my old 5s from the celica had a different tooth count on the crank gear than the 3s does. Which means I would have to change timing belts and cam gears too. I would rather stick with something simple though..lol..and using the distributor pickup is pretty simple.
