i called today to get a rough estimate for a full stainless steel mandrel bent 2.5" header back exhaust. i already have a header installed on the car, have the muffler i want to use, & have a high flow cat. the estimate was $700 for parts & labor. i already spent around 350 on the header, muffler, & cat. i dont have anywhere near $700 ready right now & my stock exhaust is hanging on by a thread. i was not expecting to hear a price like that. what should i do??

Call multiple shops, that seems pretty pricey if all you need is a bit of exhaust piping bent.
If tahts the best you can find, you may have to temporarily make your current exhaust work untill you can save up the cash. -------------------- -Protection mode, For when your amp tries to blow its load. 1995 Toyota Celica GTS - Daily Driver 1999 Chevy Cavalier - Winter Beater 1994 Honda Civic CX Hatchback - Dead My Celica! |

Talk about rip off. Call, call, and call some more. My local shop does full dual exhaust for under $300 and will do single for under $150, and it's good quality work. The guy that does all the piping and welding has been doing it longer than I've been alive. Maybe you should just go on a road trip to Disney World and just stop by here on the way.

found out why they wanted so much. i asked if they could make me a custom downpipe & flex pipe cause my original one is shot. my father said they cant just make a custom flange for the downpipe so what they would do is buy an oem downpipe & cut it before the rear cat. i'm just gonna get piping from the rear cat & back from them. should only run me 250-300 instead of 700

thats crap. they can use the flange off your old exhaust. you can cut the cost by not using stainless.
building a custom exhaust like that will take about 3 hours. typical rates are getting close to 100 bucks an hour so there is 300. as for parts thats a rip off. all you need is a few U bends and J bends and a 4 foot strait piece. -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo

well first of all, you are not going to gain anything going this route. maybe 1-2 HP? if your downpipe has rotted away, just have a crush bent pipe replacement. what are you goals here.
but yes just use teh flange from your old downpipe, cut it off and weld the new pipe to it. -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo

Call me stupid or ignorant if you will but my main goal is sound. i just want a good loud tone & i figured since i got the header i might aswell go full header-back. These guys do quality work i can assure you that. I saw someone with a 6GC who got stainless mandrel bent cat-back from them for 350 parts & labor. I just dont know why i got quoted 700? |

There is a place out in Ephrata called Red Run Exhaust that i keep hearing stellar things about.
I am getting my exhaust done at JM Fabrications in Sellersville. Try them for a quote. They do great fab work as well -------------------- 1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situation エキサイティングカーレーシングチーム! march 2010 COTM : 6GC feature 2014 : january 2015-2016-2018 COTM |

yes it will. since it will be of a different material. It is though, a small portion of the entire exhaust so if you were just to have a SS downpipe, it wouldnt make a substantial difference in sound, but you should hear a very slight difference

thanks for clearing that up for me haha. my dad likes mufflex but he agrees with everyone else $700 is a rip off so he wanted to get an oem downpipe & just have them do cat-back piping. But i'll definitely give those shops a call.

the general quote from JM that i have is about 8-1000 for a header back non stainless. And 1-1.5k for full stainless. Thats if you have all the parts and use their piping.
Red Run would most definitely be the cheaper of the two -------------------- 1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situation エキサイティングカーレーシングチーム! march 2010 COTM : 6GC feature 2014 : january 2015-2016-2018 COTM |
