Looking for advice on getting to 500whp. Made 412whp 24lbs boost this year, my setup is capable to get to it. Correct me if Im wrong, I think due to me running a 1.8mm thick head gasket, and having to run higher boost, its limits my peakpower. I order 1.5mm, then they told me it was out of stock, I needed to finish my build, so I went with What they got. After tuning it, I send my run file to Koracing, he said, that my tune was not complete. It was set up for safe tune. My set up. 3rd gen3sgte. Forge bottom end, upgraded vave and springs, 264 BC cams
Ems. Hydra Nemise. Turbo. Precsion 50trim 63ar hot side, Injector. 1200cc. E85 fuel. Any advice from anyone who made it to 500whp would be nice. I went with this setup. I want a streetable car with good response and still have good top end power. Thanks everyone |

first off suspension is the foundation for power. upgrade suspension so you can lay the power down... 500 whp and street-able are not often found in the same sentence when it come to the 6th gen celica. around 300hp is a nice number for these cars.

272 cams would help you get there in exchange of more lag, at least a 10whp increase and more when properly tuned.
couldn't you push a couple more PSI? -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

with the right turbo and tune you could do it, cams would help too. what turbo are you using?

i was making 545 in my 7th gen with a GT35R. i can tell you this that it is very streetable. just learn how to drive it in the lower gears. 1st and 2nd just go easy on the throttle, but once you are in 3rd, hammer down and walk away from pretty much anything on the road. well except for my SUPRA BABY!!!!!

I'm not sure about the 3sgte, but I dont see you making that with the turbo. .63 ar is tiny. I had a .83ar and had about 45psi of back pressure at 15psi. Changed to 1.18 or something and fixed that issue. Mines a v8, but still doesnt matter how many cylinders your have it's still an airpump pushing air through a single turbo.
You wont need something as big as I do, but at 412fwhp I wouldnt be surprised if it's already close to choking out. Easy to check though if you have an o2 bung before the turbo. Back pressure shouldnt be more than double the boost you're running. This post has been edited by czwalga: Dec 18, 2012 - 10:06 AM -------------------- -93 Rx7, Turbo 6.1L v8, 725rwhp/760rwtq

Sup bro. nice to see someone making decent amount of power with a 6th gen celica, i was making around 400 with my set up but a bit more tq. my limit was the turbo, i would suggest uping the turbo a bit either psi or going bigger over all (i would suggest what smaay said GT35R...and 272 cams)
your feel a bit more lagg but the power will come at the end ..with a forge bottom end you should be handling bigger power like no tomorrow, trutly i would suggest just to pick up a gt35r and keep at that, lagg is what kills street runs or track runs, dyno numbers are nice but those are just numbers and will not improve handling or traction i would love to get back into 6th gens but i trutly think that, that car was made to be RWD, after hoping into RWD and AWD cars i cant push myself to try and work on a FWD anymore and make big power. btw we should meet up i still have some stuff left over from when i was building my set up, and hanging out is always nice with a few cold ones on the hand. I ran across your old 6gen, I hear lots of things about it. I thought of going with a bigger turbo at first. But I wanted a turbo in between. I ask Ron at Rs motor to increase my redline higher when he tune my car, but instead he cut my max power at 7000rpm. This summer I ran into a guy with a mr2, full build, tune, running a 6267 turbo, he claim shy of 500whp, we did some hwy pull to test our set up. I pull on him from40, i,50,60,75 mhp. He didnt even stand s chance. Turbo lagg was so bad on that setup. My buddy Rx7 with Gt35, he made 390whp, full build. The lagg on his car was bad,
This coming year, Ill retune first, see where that get me. Again I havent max out my setup yet. I was very suprise myself how well this setup perform on the street, Only thing I regret is going with a thicker head gasket. It kill my boost response. Hope to see you this summer sometime, your should come to ricekiller meet. Thanks everyone for your input. |

the 7th gen is a smaller engine that makes no torque but i never really noticed lag in my setup. i suggest using a staggard cam, 272 intake and 264 exhaust. This is what i have in my All-Trac. the smaller exhaust will help spool and the 272 will help top end.
the 35R is a DBB turbo so it still spools fast. -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo

HAHA it wasnt all that ..my old 6th gen... not even sure how its doing now havent talk to the dude that bought it for a bit, last i heard he needed an axle and the motor wasnt doing so well if i was to do another one i would go all out and plan everything out accordling, i do plan if i could get my hands on a clean 6gen without a motor do a rwd conversion. was thinking of using the is300 rear diff and have a custom drive shaft, if possible see if i could turn the motor. its all still in the works and plans..have to make a custome plate for the bell housing for whatever tranny i could get to work and cut the fire wall and whatever. i would love to actually get my hands on a 7th gen and do what fensport did a few years back: AWD, 3S SWAP . i think it would be kinda of wicked...just cant get myself to actaully pick up a FWD again.. clutch wise im going to push the Southbend. the stock 2ZZ is good for about 260HP. after that you better start upgrading pistons. they are the weakest link. ill look for pics, but my setup is not your typical kit. i hate to admit it but the best option for you might be the turbokits.com kit.
here is what i could find. if you go on youtube and search smaay or eodninja6 you will find a video of me on the dyno making the power -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo

the 2ZZ is very boost friendly. just be careful with your tuning. the corolla ECU is a little different from a celica, but you can make an adapter harness so you can use the Power FC. that is the absolute best ECU to use. do your research on newcelica.org and the corolla forums.

I hate that there are no dynos down here :S... Im on 1200cc 272 cams and the ECU is cutting at 28 psi because the solenoid isnt controlling boost...or the spring in the wastegate is just too damn hard...21 psi spring but it wont move...it will hit 35 psi in 2nd... the EFR is a monster...on ethanol about 60~ psi fuel pressure.
