Hey guys, now hear me out I LOVE MY 1996 CELICA GT!! I absolutley love it, its never given me problems and I love modding it, but.. but I was looking at the Eclipse GSX (awd turbo, 200hp) and its almost the same price, its a little more expensive, and the insurance is a lot more.. I was wondering what you guys think of that comparison and if you guys know any pros / cons for each car.. despite the obvious of course! I love my 6gc but Im scared I might trade it in and buy a GSX on day, talk me out of it!

GSX is a nice car man, I was looking at a GST before I bought my celica. My words of advice would have to be.... you can easily make a RS or GS look like a GSX... its the poser factor. While a 6gc is one of a kind and rare, yeh a gsx is too, but in my area there a 3 GSX that I know of and god only knows how many fakes, while there are only 2 6gcs (including mine). The fact that 6gc's are sexier and cooler than an eclipse was the deciding factor for me. That and the Fast&Furious fall off crowd don't really know about them like they do eclipses.

The Eclipse GSX will require much more maintenance and care than a sixth generation Celica will. It's got a turbo engine that commonly has problems if not well cared for mated to a fairly fragile tranny. Both are nice cars though. The Eclipse will be faster, but I think the sixth generation Celica may handle better(not sure, but it is much lighter than a GSX), and personally, I like the way the sixth generation Celica looks more, even though GSXs do look sweet.

get the gsx
nothing wrong with the car if you take care of it. 6gc is by far more reliable because it is a toyota, it is NA, and AWD makes things more complex gsx is a lot faster, with great mod response and good aftermarket -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

i've looked into gsx's a lot lately. all the concerns about fragile and faulty turbo's are due to CRANKWALK. there's a lot of 2nd gen 4g63 dat hab this problem and mitsu and chrysler won't recall it.
the crankwalk problen once you get it is not fixable most of the times. very few have been fixed. u'll prolly hab to swap. i've heard about cases that get crankwalk even after swaps. so look into that. signs of crankwalk: clutch gets stuck on the bottom. trouble shiftin gears after hard left turn. "tick"ing noise around the timing belt area. those are juss some signs and the ones that happen towards the end. again all the mechanical troubles buggin the 2nd gen eclipses are due to crankwalk.thrust bearings, crankshaft, rod bearing, thrust sensor, timing belt, and many more. now that my celi is dead im lookin into gsx too. and the biggest drawback is this crankwalk issue. this issue seems to be most prevalent in the 95,96, some 97 and some 98. 99's havent come up wif the problem yet. but never know. one fix to this seems to b a swap with the 1st gen 4g63, which was built slightly different and it seems to b free from crankwalk. plus it's got a better blow off valve. hope this helps you. |

That's nothing... If I can't find a good AE86, I'm probably gonna either get a 7th gen GT-S, or a *gasps* 2002+ Honda Civic SI hatch.
With the SI hatch, simple bolt-ons and a Hondata flashed ECU, them fuxorz are fast. Great torque, great top-end... beautiful sounding engine... -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

crankwalk is not that big of a problem.
the only time your hear about it is from people that drive the cars hard and modify them. and thats only a few people on forums that say they have it. people hype it up a lot. -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

the gsx is a great car! get it!
i know a few people that have them and didnt get crackwalk. if you do get crankwalk, then all you have to do is swap in a motor from the 1st gen DSMs. you can buy one of those for around 600$ and it would be a lot cheaper then doing a 3sgte swap to your celica. i kind of wish i bought one when i was shopping for a new car. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

GSXs are nice cars. one big thing about them though is they might as well not even have a back seat. they have ZERO leg room in the back. other than that they have a very celica-like interior, though the seats arent as comfortable. overall though very nice car.

My bud calls my celica a girls car. I like to htink my celica isn't a girl car. I think its all about the color, how you take care of it, and what you do to it(IE, does it smell perfumy, have flowers hanging from the mirror.. all that female crap they do).... but then again, i might just be fooling myself into thinkin its not a girls car

The 4G63 is not all that reliable. My brother owns a 95 TSI Talon, which is the exact same thing as GSX Eclipse, and he drives it maybe 3 months out of the year. The car is just ridiculously unreliable. Every mod you put on it makes the car less and less reliable. It might be good stock, but if you're serious about performance then you better buy somethin else to drive on the side when your car is in the shop or garage. Besides, it's a proven fact, those cars break down waaaaaay too much.
