Hello,

I ordered 2 rear KYB strut mounts from amazon, both model number SM5087. However, look different from each other, not drastically but it is noticeable. Biggest difference is on mount has ring around the metal cup on the top while the other does not.

Has anyone ever dealt with this or does it sound like it could be an issue?

Just trying to make sure so I don't run into issues during installation or while on the road.
Thanks

Here's some on photobucket, I'm not sure if that's how you post pics though

Larger pics? Rather difficult to see details.

This is what an SM5087 should look like, minus the rust and damaged rubber exterior:

Hmm, may just be a brand difference.

I think it'll work just fine. Aslong as the center bolt lines up with the strut, and the 2 pieces that come down to stop it from spinning are lined up, it should be just fine. That is of course saying the 3 mount points are the same too =P

Cut springs?

I won't be cutting the springs since I also bought a set of eibach sportlines and F/R set of kyb struts and I will have to pay for installation so I wld hate for something to go wrong, I test fit them onto the strut and they both seem to fit fine, so I don't see them not fitting into the car

i added some more pics of them on the assembly

so you think they'll be ok? If so I can have it all installed tomorrow

Given they're supposed to be the same item, I'd be reluctant to use the one that doesn't match. Contact your suppliers, ask them to replace it as you were shipped an incorrect part (at their cost).

In case anyone else ever has this issue, I had the two different looking rear strut mounts installed, and so far i've driven about 500 miles on them and they work great.

well, sometimes they change design, will work either way. but the key is, will it change ride height.

I noticed original toyota mounts were different from KYB, and then so I bought newer toyota ones they looked like the KYB, and I realized KYB either makes it for toyota or toyota is using the same design as KYB. Either way the design changed. One thing I noticed is there might be some possibility that the newer designs might change ride height if its thicker. I measured my ride height after and measured the two mounts, off by some. not sure if its psychological coincidence but i noticed the ride height change fairly easily by just looking at the gap, especially I only changed 1 side first, i noticed it. best to get both sides of course.

Hmm I measured this and one side seemed to be lower by like 1/4 inch, but i couldnt really tell visually, the car seemed to be on a level surface too, but it's rides pretty smooth so hopefully it won't make a difference in the long run

naw it won't you should be good to go...original toyota mounts were less beefy than the new designs toyota releases and KYB. Usually a typical car is never even or balanced naturally. theres actually something called suspension balancing where a shop can make the proper adjustments but makes more sense for racing applications.
