So... Bolt pattern adapters...
I'm sure a lot of you guys have used these due to the much larger selection of wheels in different bolt patterns. I found a great deal on some used mazda 16'' wheels, so I decided to give them a go. After reading a ton, I decided not to do the custom fab hub centric kind. I think I made a really big mistake. I got everything on and I'm getting a ton of wobble. At first I thought the adapters must not be on the hub exactly centered. I checked them though and it looks to me as though the wheels themselves aren't bolted onto the adapters exactly strait. I'll try to get pics up, but I plan to take it all off and try again tomorrow and have somebody watch to see if it looks strait. If all else fails, I'll get custom adapters made. If you have ANY advice it would be much appreciated. I would love to avoid buying custom hub centric adapters seeing as how they're pretty costly. Have any of you used non-hub centric adapters or spacers before? What are your tips on instillation? I thought about putting a jack under the wheel as I bolt it on to see if I could keep it from going on crooked, but that is the only idea I've had. I need to get this fixed asap because I use this car as a daily driver. Thanks in advance for your help! |

hub centric adapters keep the wheel centered. post pics of the setup.
this is one of the reasons i dont recomend this.. you could have swapped hubs, to a 5 x 114.3 like some members did here, and did great and safer. some members vouch for these adapters, but you found the expensive way, of the wobbling, and now having more adapters made is going to cost u more. first of all, what is the mazda pattern, and the hub size.. -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... The mazda pattern is 5 x 114.3 and the hub bore is 67.1 mm
problem is, I would still need spacers for the wheels because of the offset This post has been edited by DouglasJaneway: Dec 19, 2012 - 12:05 AM |

you can always get spacers with longer studs like ichiba, that would be safer, but the camry hubs are 5 * 114.3 and its been swapped and proven.... you can go that way...

If the adapter center bore doesn't match the hub, you can use a centering ring inside the adapter but if the adapter doesn't have a lip on it's outer face you won't be able to center the wheel on it.

you will need a spacer with a 54.1mm rear bore and the front bore of the spacer would either need to be milled to 67.1mm or get a hub centric ring that will extend whatever diameter the outer bore is, to 67.1
There are companies that custom make 5x100 to 5x114 bolt on spacers. You would have to get the bores to match as stated above. Thats the only way to do it properly other than swapping to the camry setup -------------------- 1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situation エキサイティングカーレーシングチーム! march 2010 COTM : 6GC feature 2014 : january 2015-2016-2018 COTM |

I have the rings from when I was running my aftermarket wheels. Not sure what size they are, but I can look into it for you.
edit: Just looked, but the rings I have would be too big. Sorry mang. This post has been edited by mkernz22: Dec 19, 2012 - 11:52 AM |

My back right wheel looks as if its on right... which is the only wheel I tightened down with a socket wrench first... so I'm going to attempt that first. If that fails, it looks like I'm going to try the camry hubs. I won't be able to work on it til friday, so I'll update you guys then. Thanks for the help!

I finally got it all worked out. It just took some patience and help. The lugs weren't lining the wheels to the adapters properly. It would probably work better if I had more tapered lug-nuts, but regardless I ended up having someone hold up the wheel with a pipe while I hand tightened the lugs with a wrench. After I could see the wheel was on strait I torqued them down. Moral of the story is, these adapters are fine if you have a lot of time and patience. I ended up having to re do each wheel several times to get them on strait. I now have no vibration or wobble. The hub centric ones would be a lot easier. Thanks for the help!
