Carbon Fiber shift knob, have it installed, but..... Options

I installed my carbon fiber shift knob today. It looks great. The only prob is that now i cant turn my key off, and therefore cant take it out of the ignition. I know that this is because b4 there was the button at the top of the shifter that had to be pushed in to take the car out of Park, etc. Now that the shift knob is on its like the button being pressed in constantly. I was wondering if any of you know of a way i could bypass this so that i can remove my key. Thanks.

that could be potentially dangerous disabling that. if say your going 100 mph and it is accidently bumped into reverse *cringe*

Good point, but im not as worried about it being able to shift w/out pressing the button as i am about about getting the key out. I know it can be dangerous, but i always keep my hand off the shifter when im driving and noone that rides with me touches it. I highly doubt its gonna just jump up into reverse on its own. I already thought about it. scary to think of what could happen, but I think it will be ok.

what shift knob do you have cause you might have it own there to far

if you will loosen the knob, the key will come out. are you using a manual knob or auto?

How do u take off the Auto Shift knob, I tried the other day but I wasn't able to do much after taking out the two screws on the front.

To take it off you have to pull out the two screws and then you have to pull out the overdrive switch which just pops out. Then cut the wires going to the switch and the knob slides right off. You'll have to either rig up a new switch or just keep the two wires separated and that will make it stay in overdrive.

BTW thanks for the advice, but i finally figured out a way to fix my prob. The knob is for a manual, but i found that when u take off the factory shift knob there is a shaft sticking up in the center. It has to be depressed to move into gear. So instead of having the new knob screwed down tightly onto the post like the directions say to do, I found a plastic piece in the factory knob that the hexagon-shaped center shaft fits into. I cut it to fit insde the new knob. Then i unscrewed the center shaft and slid it into the plastic sleeve and glued them together. Then i put the shaft and sleeve into the knob and secured it inside w/ an o-ring. To finish it up just srew the center shaft back into its original hole and voila...you're finished.

Just press down on the knob and it lets you go into gear,but then it comes back up on its own so you dont have to worry about it shifting while youre driving.

I'll have to make this into a how-to.
