Is there any quick fix on the fuel filler pipe i can use untill the summer comes? was thinking of just cleaning it, using a steelbrush and some sandingpaper, glue it like **** with something that dont dissolves in petrol and duckt tape it. is there any other better genious way? maybe a tape that works on petrol?? maybe splicing tape?
it is leaking in the little hose between the rubber pipe and the metal one (just behind the A-arm). its glued stuck to the pipe in the other end of the hose because i had a leak at the gas tank on it... (on the highest point of the small hosething). that i fixed with 2compound epoxy putty, some contact adhesive and a shrink-hose. (Works like hell) I am planning to make the whole fuelfillerpipe new when the ****ing snow and cold is gone.... (new one costs 1500 NOK, about 260 USD) can i get some advice of what to make it in? was thinking of getting some plumming pipes. or just make the whole thing in a big fat radiator rubber hose (ofc something that does not dissolve in petrol) and just make alot of fasteningpoints, and the little hose just use cableties to hold it up against it or something... or maybe do it propperly and make it in metal... its rotten anyways so gotta get a new one, one way or another. EDIT: and it cannot rust..... (Norway use salt on the roads in the winter... ALOT of salt...) but gotta have a temp fix untill the summer... (today it was -12,5 degrees and snowing, and i am a big sissy) Also, i get a bangingnoise when i drive over a hole (not on purpose) and it feels like the rear wheel is shaking a little bit when i hear the noise. I belive it is the wheel bearings... is it alot work to change them?? This post has been edited by tto010: Jan 16, 2013 - 10:19 AM |

I had holes in my fuel filler neck too and it used to leak gas while filling up and smell of gas in general. I ordered one from Ebay for around 90$ used. It was in really good condition even though it came off a 94 car i think. My car is 96.
Now let me tell you about the filler neck that came off my car. It had holes so big that those holes could have a zip code of their own. I just wonder how much gas was just evaporating out of it and how much dust and water was getting into the tank through those enormous holes. My suggestion is to just find a used one from a junkyard or Ebay and put it on. Building one would be hard, believe me, because it has two pipes running concurrently, one for return of fumes i believe. I had tried to fix a filler pipe on my old Camry before and i had just used a radiator house and used it to clamp after cutting off the rusted out part. It still used to leak. I would just look on Ebay or bite the bullet and buy a new one if i were you. |
