It's a straight six, can't go wrong with that, really. The E30 is a proven chassis. Electricals are just scary. I found a list of common problems for them, seems that on any I'd be looking at they'd already be taken care of by now. Rather it matters or not I'm looking at the E36, the only complaints of electrical I recall seeing were for a "comforts relay" that operates all of the interior amenities. It's really down to where I just need to drive them all now. I checked CL last night and couldn't find any of the cars locally.. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

If I could afford a M3 I would just buy a Vette. Speaking of, a 94 Vette 6 speed popped up for 4K here locally. Sadly it seems some Honda kids got a hold of it since things are painted yellow that shouldn't be yellow... Anyhow, the E36 does seem like a well balanced car and hits many wants. Comfortable and luxurious interior/ride while still having good handling and straight line speed. Still thinking about the others though. At least with the BMW I can be like, "Hey girl I drive a BMW, want to go for a ride in it?" Which is totally not how I am, but that's ok.

I think BMWs are great, but the parts are really expensive and any german luxury car these days thats at least 10 years old is going to have a lot of electronic gremlins. Unless you've got the dough to fix the VANOS etc when it breaks down... not worth it.
I know I'm a yankee living up north, but I don't know where on earth you can get a good condition 90s corvette for 4k. |

Saw some things about the VANOS, so I don't know. I got to looking around on them though and most of the replacement parts weren't that bad, at least from Rock Auto anyhow. You can get the 80's early 90's automatic Vettes for 4K quite easily. The problem is finding the 89-96 6-speed. They're usually lower mileage and cleaner, but of course that means they're more expensive. So kind of gave up on that one for now. I could sell off all of my music gear and get one, but that's not happening.
That's ok I think I'll just end up with a 94-02 F-body. I keep coming back to them for a reason, despite them being a bitch to do anything under the hood and having the world's cheapest interior. At least I can fix most of the interior if I want to. Apparently installing headers helps quite a bit on future spark plug changes, so that'd be nice. My dad's Z28 was very stout and reliable aside from the automatic transmission. So I imagine one with the Borg Warner T-56 must be pretty much the bee's knees. I just see myself more at home in that kind of car. Of course I'd still consider the Miata since it's at the other end of spectrum, where as the BMW and 240SX are just kind of there in between them. I would say the Mustang, but I don't want to spend a small fortune on the suspension to bring it up to my expectations. Besides, just look how bad ass the F-body is: Also it's amazing how much light covers do for the Camaro: 275 hp at 5,000 and 325 ft lb at 2,400. With a good deal to be made just in redoing the exhaust and air intake. Of course if it hasn't been taken care of already, CAGS will have to go. -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

The T/A, maybe, yeah...but that Camaro is just a disastrous type of awful.

It's purple though, I LOVE purple. I like the Firebird more, but almost 3 times as many Camaros were made. So needless to say it's a lot easier to find a Camaro versus the Firebird. So if I were to find a near mint 94-95 Camaro in a colour I like, I'd probably go for it. Besides, those light covers really make a big improvement. That and smoke the tails and you're good to go. If it wasn't for the fact the 240SX needs premium and doesn't get that much better than the F-body I'd more heavily consider it. I hear a lot of reports of people getting upper 20's on their 6-speed LT1's, I'd imagine I could squeeze that out of one. Even my dad's Z28 A4 got mid 20's. Still have time to think it over, will either be the Miata or F-body it seems. Looks like my brother's car is going to be down for a lot longer than we thought it would...

Subaru BRZ all the way! If I had that kind of money to drop down on a car I'd just buy a Vette. It's expensive now, but give it a few years and some used ones may go up for sale. The Celica I bought for $2500 a few years ago was bought for $20,715 by the original owner in 1995. Depreciation FTW. |

Yeah, buying new is stupid. Just funny to think about it, if everyone were like me car companies would be in some serious trouble.
