Yesterday i was changing out the oil pan gasket to stop the oil leak and while cleaning it out, i discovered metal shavings in the oil pan. What needs to be replaced asap? Is it shavings from a bearing or a rod? What are the parts i should replace to make it clean again? All the help will be great

Meh, I wouldn't worry about it. Once it starts making noises, then be concerned. Rebuilding now would be a waste of money and time. Most cars have a magnet in the oil pan that'll keep all the shavings from going around the engine. If that is the case for our cars then those metal shavings could be from when the engine was new. Like I said, until you start having noises or other signs of engine problems just go with it.

I wouldnt worry about a few shavings. like box said, wait till you hear noises or seeing holes in your block.

Did it look anything like this???

if not, that's normal. make sure you change the oil more frequently, that's a sign of not-so-good lubrication.

^^^ if it looks like that, you have big problems!! if all you saw was sparkles in the oil then its ok. thats normal to see that a little bit.

I have noticed shavings when I change my oil, have also noticed my used oil is more reddish in color so it looks more brown and it is kinda alittle sluddgy... if that makes sense any ideas? also by 3000 miles I only drained out about 2 quarts d=-( how long do I have?!?

2 quarts of reddish, sludgy oil with metal shavings in it? Sounds like chernobyl reactor #4 waiting to happen. Just keep dumping oil in it till it throws a rod then ducttape the hole and keep on going

no sludge under the valve cover... I thinking it just may be coolant.
