So my both rear tires looks like this one on the picture.
I have megan racing coilovers and I know this wear sometimes is caused the the suspension and not because of toe, camber or caster. Bt if my suspension is only 1 year old what could be causing this? When I pass my hand around the tire I feel the thread going up and down ![]() This post has been edited by diegohiga: Mar 19, 2013 - 8:24 PM -------------------- ![]() |

It's called cupping, and it's usually just cheap tires, the tires not being rotated often enough, the suspension being excessively bouncy (blown shock), or in some cases from the wheel being bent or very out of balance. You'll get all kinds of noise and vibrations if you stick those on the front of the car, try to keep them on the rear until you're ready to get some new tires.

^what he said.
Its usually caused by the suspension. If that tire came into my work we would put a note on the work order saying suspension wear. -------------------- 90' Toyota Celica GT (sold)

Mine do the same thing, but never did it on the ST.
But they came with the GT. |

^what he said. Its usually caused by the suspension. If that tire came into my work we would put a note on the work order saying suspension wear. So how do I fix this? These coilovers are less than 2 years old.. Oh yeah BTW! Sometimes when I start the car and start moving I heard something scratching on the rear driver side wheel. Like if my tire were ribbing the fender but is really not. Then after a couple seconds the sound goes away... idk its weird.. -------------------- ![]() |

Jack that corner in the air, grab the shock with one hand and rotate the tire with the other, if you feel vibrations in the shock while the tire is spinning then you have a bad wheel bearing which can cause noises like that, compare the feeling against another corner to be sure, it should be noticeable. Also try grabbing the tire and trying to shake it both side to side and top to bottom to feel for any play. Also inspect all 4 shocks for wetness indicating that the hydraulic fluid is leaking from the shock a.k.a being "blown." Megan racing coilovers aren't necessarily cheap as far as suspension goes but they are fairly cheap as far as full body coilovers go, the shocks can go definitely bad in that amount of time if you're running them at a fairly low ride height. -------------------- ![]() 94 GT - Sold -------- 69 Pontiac Lemans - Sold 88 Alltrac - Sold ---- 04 WRX - Sold 00 GT-S - Sold ------ 91 Miata - project/drift car 95 GT - Sold -------- 96 GT - New Daily Drive |

I don't think that would be caused by a wheel bearing.
In all the cases i've had bad wheel bearings, it got significantly faster as I sped up, and it was nothing like a scratching sound. Although it doesn't hurt to check. -------------------- -Protection mode, For when your amp tries to blow its load. 1995 Toyota Celica GTS - Daily Driver 1999 Chevy Cavalier - Winter Beater 1994 Honda Civic CX Hatchback - Dead My Celica! |

Alignment issue. Toe isn't right on or a suspension bushing is crap and letting the alignment change too much while driving. (or tierod/ball joint bad and doing the same thing).

Although it doesn't hurt to check. if the bearing is bad enough that your rotor moves a noticable amount it can start scraping on the brake wear sensor or even the caliper bracket causing a sratching/squeaking sound, happened to the front wheel bearing on my 94 GT once. You are right though that a bad wheel bearing usually makes a growling/humming noise at about 40 mph+ that progressively gets louder with speed.
