what's up guys, long time no post. been pretty busy with the beams. recently received a timing belt & water pump from lithia, oem intake is on it's way, still searching for a downpipe the 3rd gen one i saw sold before i could get on it. but we're gettin there. i know that i will need either a beams rpm gauge or the one adapter dont remember the name off the top of my head but i'm sure i can find the thread again. anyways, i'd rather get an actual beams gauge so my question is, is it possible to just get a singled out RPM gauge instead of the whole cluster? i know that i cant use the beams speedometer.

you can always make a hybrid cluster like mine simply remove the rpm tach and the temp and gas tach and put it on you stock cluster they are bolt on

Not sure why you can't use your stock unless beams is upgrade. But I swapped st205 cluster into my st204, wanted the boost gauge to go along with my 3sgte. I had to use Dakota Digital (SGI8 I think its called) Dr.Tweak has best price on it last time I checked. Had to use it since my 3s is 4th gen and has COP DIS ignition system unlike 5sfe and st205 3S that use dissy igintion system. Is beams DIS ignition as well? And you can swap gauges between different clusters. I swapped out the Km/H gauge for my MP/H one.

Yes, you can just get the tach, assuming you can find anyone selling just the tach. Most of the time, people won't want to sell just the tach and be stuck selling/throwing away a partial gauge cluster. But assuming you can find/persuade someone to sell the tach by itself, there's no reason that you can't buy just the tach.
Personally, it would annoy me to no end to have a white tach face and the rest of my gauges be black. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. Its beams specific
It you can keep it black faced and get an mad tach adapter to interrupt the signal and tell the ecu what it needs to know. -------------------- |

i dont want to keep it black faced i want to use the beams tach, not the speedometer of course, but the tach. here's the cluster i want to buy, what i'm asking is will any white face tach work. was the white face exclusive just for the beams? maybe i'm mistaken but i thought some other ST202s came with white face gauges.

some aussie ST204's and some Special Edition '97 SS-I had white face gauges. However it is easy to tell the difference as they only went up to 8,000rpm, where as all 3S-GE motor's went up to 9,000rpm.

Since it's on topic, I've got some questions. I too am doing a BEAMS swap.
So let me get this straight: I need a BEAMS Tach and Fuel piece of the cluster. The only way to get a full black cluster with Miles Per hour is: Buy a white 9k BEAMS cluster and an ST205 or regular 3SGE cluster then swap the electronics on the fuel and tach to the 3SGE cluster and then swap the miles per hour from a regular ST204 cluster into the miles place. Right? Also, it's my understanding that I don't need to do any additional wiring work? Thanks! -------------------- 2019 M2, 2005 S2000, 1997 4Runne

you need the white BEAMS rpm guage as the computer uses the rpm signal along with load from the throttle body for vvti operation.
people swap the temp/ fuel guage in for a tidier look. However it is possible to use the 3rd 3S-GE rpm black guage (so all gauges are black) but with an additional part to alter the signal to allow the computer to read it, there was a thread somewhere with the details on how this works -------------------- |
