Ok, to keep things simple in my explanation. Car is a celica with a swapped genIII 3sgte, running aftermarket ecu and individual coils from a 00 audi 1.8t. Coils have built in igniters and my wiring is solid, everything is soldered, heatshrinked, and taped together.

problem: misfire is completely random but seems to be heat triggered. When the car has been running long enough to get pretty toasty it starts misfiring (sometimes, not all the time). Sometimes one cyl, other times two cyls.

my ecu isn't triggering a misfire error when I have the laptop plugged in, I think because it isn't happening often enough to trigger an error. I'm suspecting the coils because they are known to be sucky, AND the 99/00 audi a4 1.8t coils that I have are supposed to be the most reliable year coils. According to the audi guys the stock ones are better and more reliable than any aftermarket replacements, so I'll stick with the stockies.

Just to cover all bases, I thought I would ask how reliable the genIII stock injectors are. I haven't heard of any problems with them looking through the forums, but I'm asking anyway. Even though I'm 90% sure my coils are to blame frown.gif

I love these coils because of the hot spark they are known to deliver.

A side note though: I wish I could record how the engine sounds when it is misfiring. It is running on two cyls, and is slow compared to normal, but sounds just like an impreza. It sounds really throaty and cool. So I know it's either coils 1 and 4 or 2 and 3 since the engine sounds "normal" (normal for an impreza) when running on two cyls and those cyl pairs are the only way it can run like this and sound semi-normal.

If you had an injector problem, it would show up on your wideband.

Could be lot's of problem. Maybe the EGT sensor will recieve to high values? Remembered an other post where someone had the same problem.

Try to disconnect it and see if the problem still occurs.

I don't have an EGT sensor on mine. With the aftermarket ecu I am only using necessary sensors for the car to run. distributor pickup, coolant temp, tps, air temp, and map...nothing else.
