4 JUNE 2013

OK OK, so here is the deal. I have spent alot of time on trying to find a 6gc worth purchasing. I have found a few and have made offers that were not taken. So I decided to start my own project thread, and just turn one of my two celica's into my dream celica.

Project Basics.

94 Celica GT- Automatic 5sfe>>>>>>>>>into>>>>>>>>>> 94 Celica GT- Manual 5SFTE

I have a 95 manual 5sfe that I will be using parts out of.

Step 1. Pretty much remove everything from the 94. Interior first, then engine compartment. Then Undercarage.
Step 2. Re- carpet / customize interior.
Step 3. Get barebone frame/Engine Bay painted.
Step 4. Drive train / undercarage / wheels installation.
Step 5. Tranny/Motor installation.
Step 6. Body Kit and Paint job.
Step 7. Speeding tickets, bitches, and car shows.

Got most of my tools out of storage into the new house so will be starting tonight hopefully. Will take a few starting pictures of both cars, and keep a running list of everything. I am not doing this on the site for nothing. This is my first auto project ever, and am taking it a bit at a time as I learn things. I will have tons of questions and would love some experienced input from the users that made me into a 6gc nut.

Ideas, Concerns, positive criticism, and any other things you want to throw in here would be much appreciated. Like I said, its my first ever auto project ever. I don't know ****, but have a descent amount of cash, so am planning on having fun and doing it right no matter how long it takes.

Things I still need, been doing alot of research over the past few months and heres where I am stuck.

MOTOR / Tranny

Been looking at the 5sfe block, and was hoping to get an E tranny,

Thanks in advanced, and I look forward to doing my project with the help of all you 6gc'rs helping out along the way.

its good your starting from scratch pretty much lol. IMO its harder to start with little things, and more and more and then something big and continue with little things and so on while trying to keep the car drivable. I assume it will be alot easier and far less painful knowing the car can sit and you will have the time to get the right parts lol no macgyver-ing things
Im kinda of in the same boat as you with the trans, i dont quite know if i know enough to take a shot at it. Thats why I went with the GT trans.
Also you say buying and engine and trans, why not buy a whole clip? I know you have the 95 GT but there are plenty of items that will not be there that you will have a headache trying to source + the money goes through the roof. Im pretty comfortable, but the spending got fairly high for what should be a fairly straightforward swap.
Keep us updated

I pulled off the front and rear bumpers and both fenders.

Removed front and rear seats

Removed center consel

Removed trunk items and some of the trim and spare.

Started to undo the dash but got a little tired.

Removed stereo and climate control.

Next project is to remove carpet and get a really good enterior cleaning.

Will post more pics and more progress as I finish small projects on it.

Looks like a cool project, will be watching smile.gif

And I would recommend using the image tags in your post... I understand why you kept them as links, but if we are reading this then we want the pics and opening all of them individually can be painful, especially on mobile devices tongue.gif

I am working very hard on it. Sorry for no pics, but my darn camera died, will buy some batteries tomorrow and take current pictures before I continue

BEEN REALLY HIT OR MISS on finding a clip or engine/tranny for what I am going for.

TO ALL MY READERS------------------------
If you come across a 3sgte clip with front wheel drive trans, and includes all the bells and whistles, let me know. I browse a few times a week but think I'm missing it somehow. If your experienced with the swap, and see a good deal let me know so I can snag it.

Email mike@uprisetechnology.com to get ahold of me sooner. Thanks
NBG

after two full cans of engine degreaser on the inside of my car I think I have it clean enough to move onto the next step. Removing the rest of interior panels, and then removing the dash. Car had aftermarket crap from owner I bought it from 10 years ago, that were pretty rigged. I think thats why when I got out of my car if i put my hand on the floor panel I would get shocked. So I am going to go through the electrical system and bring it back to basics, then rewire anything I want. I got my Toyota manual in the mail so this will be fun. smile.gif

I will post pics of the clean job when I get home from work tonight, I took the pictures but didnt get time to upload them.

Anyone have a good paint they used for interior? I have done some painting but didnt like the texture. So I am going to strip it down and start over. I am talking about all the interior panels in the rear and the dash. I'm not experienced with any of this so learning is half the fun.

Next Steps

1. Pull off dash
2. Check for any unused wiring left from prior owner mods
3. Check on wind shild replacement (I have a crack but have a good windshield on other celi so gonna swap em.)
4. Remove Door Panels
5. Remove rear bumper.
6. Mark all body defects with blue tape for later repair
7. Look at front lights to see what needs to be replaced / repaired. Looking like world war three up there.

Should be able to noc all of this out tonight except for the windshield stuff. We will see what happens.

Ok so I got caught up with the pics, I am only going to host a few in the site, but if you want to see more you can use the hot links.

First are pictures of the interior when I pulled the carpet, it was pretty bad.

Here are a few after I cleaned it up with degreaser and scrubbing and a bit of hosing down.

Still not quite as clean as I want, but had to move on for now, cuase my arms were tired from workout then scrubbing this crap for a few hours.

Heres a pic of my garage so you can see the workspace.

I have a ton more pics on my site so if anyone wants to browse through them they can.

My pics stored on server

That will bring you to my index page and you can browse from there.

as for the clip, keep an eye out on ebay for an st205 clip. Theres going to be parts missing IMO regardless, but it should contain everything

If I was to get an engine/transmission purchased, not necessarily a clip, but just the motor ecu and the harness with tranny, which is the way to go, I mean to fit into our chassis.

I know enough about the motors to choose, but don't know enough about the transmissions. Which ones fit in our car that will mount.

And is there a difference with the 185/205/215 3sgte motors when it comes to alignment with any of the usuable transmissions. I have been doing some research and am stuck on this.

I have a few people saying the s54 then some saying the e153 then a few more saying the s54 with s51 conversion gears. I just can't figure out the difference, I would assume we need the s54 or the e153, but the 153 requires different hubs and what not. But most of the transmissions im getting offered with the car are awd. So I then read through all the conversion post for the awd, to 2wd trans conversion. But still don't think I am comphortable with that.

Some advice would help out a lot.

--------------------------------------------------
I have time and money and patience, and I want to do this right. So I can even go with the awd conversion if that would just make things better. I read a bit on that too. Have to cut and weild chassis, for the fuel tank, and work in a motor mount, but was that it?

Your best bet is to do like everyone is saying
Just buy a clip with the awd trans an get a e153 from a local scrap yard
The e153 was used in all the v6 5speed camrys an es300's an a few other cars so it'll be an easy find but your not going to find them together.
What's your power goal?? Are you just doing a stock 3sgte with nothing more than a good exhaust ? If so the s54 will hold up OK an you won't need any new mounts or axles.
If you go with a e153 you'll need gt4 mounts...witch will come in the clip you buy an you'll need custom axles

Hope that helps. I did a v6 swap an went through the same headache trying to deside on a trans for awhile so I basically based my choose off what I already had an what my overall power goal was an desided the s54 was work for my swap

OK OK, so I got my 3sgte car. And now I love it so much I want to do a bit more to the current project, so here is a great place to start cuase I have it torn already.

I'm going for the AWD converstion. It will be easier if I can find A clip with the awd trans/rear axel already. I will have to do more research on how to prep my car and I know its been done, just have to look for the post on here. I know I have to do some cutting and welding to get the fuel tank moved and what not but I will do the research soon to see exactly what all has to be done. This project is just getting deeper and deeper. smile.gif I love the car so much I want it to be perfect.

And to answer the questions I am going for performance. I want everything performance on it.

This is my engine bay currently

Removed panels and carpets

Started sanding some of the bad spots on paint.

Removed Calipers and mounts

Removed outer headlights cuase they have broken tabs.

Removed windshield washer fluid tank and stem assembly.

Will be working on it a little more cause I want to get some progress done on this now that I got my 3sgte out of the shop. smile.gif

I have been doing about 5 hours of research a day. And here is the updated info.

5sfte build from Pressure2s thread is the goal. But I am going all out.

I need tons of assistance from those who have owned the parts and worked with the companies for opinions/options.

KK FELLAS HELP ME OUT WHAT ELSE DO I NEED. I WILL UPDATE THE POST AND LIST AS I GET SOME HELP. STARTING WITH JUST THE ENGINE UPGRADES AND THEN WILL WORK ON THE TURBO.

Will not be ordering parts until I have my plan complete, and have everything mapped out to fix my stuff.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT I NEED TO BUY.

Engine Upgrades:

I. JE Pistons: Gapless top rings, High Heat Coating Pistons and Skirts, Lateral Gas Ports, Heavy Duty Wrist Pins, Accumulator Grooves, Double Pin Oilers, Contact Groves 1165.00

II. Pauter Forged Rod Set 4340:
898.00

III. CAMS: Webcamshafts.com 779/781

You might not need any of that depending on the power goals you have.

If this is going to be a showcar, I would recommend getting a prettier 3S-GTE in there instead.

Its two diffehrent things, showcar, but want it to be powerfull and street legal.

5sfte is the project. I already have a 3sgte. I want something that is less available, more original. Looking for over 350 hp with the ability to go more. Like I said, this is not a daily, this is my toy, so I want it 5sfte with the best parts to push it to the limits. Now if I blow an engine that's fine, but I would like to have all the best parts to help prevent that. I know that means lots of tuning, and since I don't know much about it I am going to spend lots of money to get it done, but who cares. I have a large budget for the project.

I have been doing about 5 hours of research a day. And here is the updated info on the path I am going to take.

Using a lot of the info from pressure2s thread, smaay's thread, and a few other guys that have posted there 5sfte, I am trying to get a 350 to 500 hp 5sfte that will not break in a year. I know many of you have the thoughts of "WTF" but keep your comments about how its a waist of money and how its dumb to yourselves.

Performance Engine Internals/Peformance Cooling/Peformance Fuel Management/Performance well Everything.
