So there's an ST185 All Trac in my area for not a lot of money. I've wanted one, but I'm unsure of what kind of work goes into bringing one back. http://lubbock.craigslist.org/cto/3891320785.html Here's the ad. Any advice is appreciated.

I just bought it, too bad for you. tongue.gif

It's a ST185. Odds are what has happened is he can't get it to run. Why else just give up and lose out on making money? With that in mind provided everything is there I'd feel safe paying $2,000 for it.

Whoops just realized I put in 165. I would feel safe paying around that for it but, I'm just unsure on how much it will take to get it to run, and if the rebuild was done right.

man in depends, its a non running car no matter how you look at it. So the asking price may be high. But being a true GT4, may offset that. Personally i love the 165 more than the 185.

As with any project car, they could be money pits. lets say you buy it, and you would probably will get it running in 3 months, and then u find something wrong. too late to contact the seller.

i would offer 1500 and see what he does. chance are, the engine is a bust, and swap the 3rd gen engine in it for more power... or a beams engine to the one in it

Not bad but the amount of work you put in will cost way more than what you start with.
Unless you have 6K laying around and a ton of time to kill, I wouldn't buy it.
The notion of buying it to save up the money later and do the repairs is not a good choice, because you will end up selling it just like the previous owners.

I'd just be afraid of Joe Smoe and what his "rebuild" consisted of. Yeah be prepared for the worst though: needing an ECU, harness, engine, and transmission. Is there even any paperwork of the rebuild? For what you could end up spending on the car, and then all of the parts/work that might be needed. Might as well just buy one that's already working. I've seen them in nice working shape for around 5K or less. Also there's the ST165. I can't remember which of the two it was, I want to say the ST165, had a lever that'd put the transmission into FWD. Very nice to have for highway cruising.

Ask for pictures of the floor pans, sway bar mounts, rear quarter panels and a-pillars.

Think about this when you are purchasing an alltrac; motors, transmissions, harnesses, suspensions can ALL be replaced. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find CLEAN GT4 bodies, so it is important to be very aware of the rust damage that you are getting into....
