I was looking at the how-tos and it had one about resetting the ECU. My car idles rough when it's cold out (it might just be that it idles that way all the time) so, would that fix it?

yes just because it makes sense since taking a battery off any electronic stuff reset most of em
then again no if it has memory like computer and doesn't matter if you unplug it or not

but to tell you da truth i dont find anything different other than i have to readjust my clock time and my radio memory

I reset my ECU 2 or 3 times to get rid of a stored engine fault code (the infamous GT4 code 54). The ECU basically starts fresh from square 1
assessing and adjusting fo any new engine mods and over the next few
trips it adjusts for your driving behaviour (short, long trips) to get the best
set up for economy. To be honest the car felt more eager the first day
after resetting but reverted back to its original performance. The ECU has
the last say on how it feels the car should perform, you can only control
its behaviour and the performance of the car by remapping it or fooling
the inputs to its sensors. I wouldn't waste my time doing it..... smile.gif

for me it was a little different. My car was idling at about 300-500 rpms. that's low. Now it idles at 900-1100. i get a little better gas mileage too. And it doesn't sound nearly as rough when it is idling. I did it about a month and a half ago and it still is the same as it was when i reset it.

If you have a celica with obd 1 than you can simply reset the ecu by unplugging the battery both pos and ned and then holding the leads together and having someone pump the breaks, I had a fault code make the check engine light come on and i asked the toyota dealer and they told me to do this and it worked, the light hasnt come on since. It wasnt really a problem with the car, a hose just came off when I was driving, I put it back on and good as new. Hope this helps. Dan
