ok so i had to recently unplug my high beams.
when i turn on my headlight, any bump on the road or my bass speaker will trigger my high to turn on and off to the vibration or bumpy road.. and even with them being disconnected the high beam signal on the dash still flickers i have no idea where to start to try and solve this.. -------------------- 94' Celica GT Manual |

I'd say there is some problem with the wiring of the high beam signal (not the actual power wire to the lights). That's why your cluster indicator flickers with lights disconnected.
Maybe you damaged the wiring if you tried to tap into some wires under the steering wheel or just messed around down there... HERE are some manuals I've found some time ago. The point of interest for you should be page 21 of "system wiring diagrams.pdf", where are the headlight diagrams (or page 20 if you have DRL). Remove the kick panel and panel under the steering wheel, where most of the wiring is. Notice the "Combination switch" on bottom of the diagram on page 21? The right side, where HIGH and FLASH of the connector are connected together is the signal that turns high-beam headlights on and off. This is where you start, find the RED/WHITE cable coming from the steering column and going to the left kick panel. Follow the wiring with the diagram and check for anything that might cause your headlights to flicker. One way to find that out is to temper and gently twist the wiring to find out when your high-beams indicator comes on. ALSO: bad ground can also be a problem, but I'm not sure about it. If you don't find any problem as described above, check the grounding seen in the bottom of the diagram. Hope it helps. -------------------- |

Thanks again All of these are strong possibilities. More commonly in older cars like these, the stalk on the steering colomn is crap. Try wiggling that lightly, see if it duplicates the issues you're having... I've had to replace a few in the cars I've owned. A stereo would definitely compound something such as this. Mentioning that you've never fiddled with the wiring under there leads me to believe that its simply an old indicator stalk. In any case, I wish you the best of luck in chasing down your gremlins. -------------------- |
