 First time breaking down, Possible problems |

Ok so last night my car decided to take a dump on me, everything was running smoothly then when I came to a light and tried to accelerate my car started sputtering and went very slow no matter how much gas i tried giving it, after about 20 feet it just died. She still cranks over and it sounds like it sputters but doesnt fire up. I tried using my scanner to see if any codes came up but nothing, so my initial deduction is probably the fuel pump but i'm not ruling out the ignition system, any ideas what would cause it to do that before dying completely?

Start with the ignition system -- pull each sparkplug, ground it and crank the engine. If you get adequate spark, you can move on to the fuel and air systems, though if your plugs are wet with gas after cranking that is a good sign the fuel system is working. If you don't get adequate spark, then you start working up the ignition system until you reach a working component; the component prior is what has failed.

If you have fuel and spark I'd look into the MAP sensor.

It's a GT and after some test i'm positive its a fuel issue, I cranked the engine with the spark plug wires off and some spare plugs and they fired, then i removed the plugs on the car and they weren't fouled or wet from fuel, plus I could smell no fuel coming from the spark plug tube which after cranking should have had some fuel if the system was working shouldn't it? |

It's possible a fuse or relay blew as well, so I'd look into those before replacing parts.

While you're at it trigger the fuel pump and see if it activates. When did you change your fuel filter last?

When did you change your fuel filter last? well i tested a new relay that proved not to be the problem so I'm gonna try pulling out the fuel pump now, anyone know a good place to relieve fuel pressure?? and truth be told the fuel filter is one thing i've never changed just because of how easy it is to bend the line connecting to it, I was planning on having a dealer do it so if they mess up its on them |

So needless to say i found the problem and it wasn't my fuel pump, i pulled that out and put some power from a jumper box to it and sure enough it was pumping, so I double checked the ignition and I was getting spark but something wasn't right the firing order wasn't what it should be it and the sparks were semi erratic so I popped of my cap and rotor and here's what I found
