Have a 94 celica gt with a 5sfe that I will be turboing. I'm going to invest a lot of time and money into this project and was hoping to get some information on the megasquirt system with our motor. I've been doing some reading and don't know exactly whats up with them and our engine but there seems to be some issues.
Anyone have experience with this system or should I go piggyback. I'm learning and not a genious on this stuff, but I want the best, and will pay for a professional to do the things for me if I cant figure it out myself. Thanks in advanced. Don't get a piggyback.
Read my post on the 98+ 5sfe, you'll find some info that will be valuable to you. You need a 98+ oil pump, crank timing gear and sensor to run a Megasquirt on the 5SFE. You'll want to get the either Megasquirt 2 or Megasquirt 3. Which suits you best depends on your current budget and future goals. -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

Piggy back is a terrible idea because you will still not be able to control ignition timing which is pretty much key to having a lasting setup.
I used a DIYPNP. Its been running great for the past few months now. http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...8&hl=diypnp Their product line can get a bit confusing but basically you have: Megasquirt 1 Megasquirt 2 Megasquirt 3. Those basically refer to the processor thats going to run your car. Megasquirt 1 is really old and lacks a lot of features, Megasquirt 2 is good and has all the features you need, and Megasquirt 3 is the latest and greatest and has more stuff than you will ever use. Once you settle on what one you want (probably MS2), you have to decide what type of circuit board you want it attached to. You can get megasquirt 2 with PCB3.0, which is the most universal circuit board. The problem with this is that you also have to buy a wiring harness, and possibly other addons to make it work. The other option is to buy MS2 in the DIYPNP version. This is a miniaturized version of the ms2 ecu, but comes on a circuit board thats more specific to your car along with a factory wiring harness plug so that you don't have to modify your stock harness. Also if you decide to solder your own circuit board (its actually pretty easy to do), the DIYPNP can be done in a few days and is a little bit less soldering than the standard MS2 PCB3. You can also buy them pre assembled if soldering is not your idea of fun. I recommend you go to www.diyautotune.com and send them an email. They are very helpful and will probably help you decide which of their products will suit your needs. For your kind of intended build, in my opinion your only option should be the Megasquirt-III/Extra.

I don't know if you've been following his threads but he intends to make the most out of the 5s and intends to spend up to 10,000 dollars in it. So if he is going to go that deep into it, the least he could get is the ms3x so he can have all the features he could ever need for later -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

I now its been a while since I jumped on the tuning thing again but after rereading all the info I found I think this will be the best bet for me. Do you two agree? Remember, I don't know much about this ****, so getting one that's all the way completed is a hell of a lot easier. My only question is how much work do I have to do with my harness to make this thing work. -------------------- Celica Enthusiast with no experience. My only question is how much work do I have to do with my harness to make this thing work. You have to wire it in... regardless of it being Megasquirt, Haltech, Microtech, whatever, it's all gonna be the same work. You're gonna need to wire in 4 injectors, a crank sensor, a cam sensor, a throttle position sensor, a coolant temperature sensor, etc etc in all ECUs. You can buy completed Megasquirt-III/Extra as well. You need to get in contact with DIYAutoTune since they will ask for specifics to make for an easier installation in the car. If you want to be the first MS3-Pro 5S-FE be my guest, it's an amazing ECU for the price. -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold
