Can someone give me some direction as to how to clean the throttle body?
I have a gas pedal that gets "stuck" where I have to smash down on it to get it to operate again (causing the car to shoot off like a rocket).....this usually happens at red lights but sometimes when I have been driving at one speed for awhile and go to accelerate. I have read that this is usually sign of a throttle body needing to be cleaned and I would like to do this myself. Any tips? |

Often the issue isn't the throttle body but the IACV -- and even if the TB is the culprit, cleaning the IACV is a good idea, especially since you'd pretty much have to remove it anyway.

if you have to mash down on the throttle, its not the IAC. try opening the throttle by hand. if it opens smoothly, then you have a bind in the cable

It's almost like the pedal gets caught on something....then I have to mash down hard to get it to "let go".....if that makes any sense.....
Thanks for bringing up the cable...we'll check it this weekend. This post has been edited by Maggie73: Sep 4, 2013 - 9:37 AM |
