Hey guys, was driving my 94 st204 back home from work at 90km/h normally on 5th gear, no traffic on a flat road when suddenly engine lost power, RPMs dropped to 300 and engine was barely running. Forced to the max to drive in low gears to the nearest service station (5 minutes from where the issue started), car had no power at all driving like @ 10km/h max in 1st gear going up hill, then on the flat and downhill could manage to engage 2nd and 3rd with rpms on 1800 tops and no power at all.
Engine was really hot as it was forced and a bit (not much) of coolant came from the little drain thing close to the cap where you fill the coolant in, waited good 40 minutes, topped the oil and water, checked spark plugs, cables and distributor cap (i had my tool box with most of my tools so i could remove the plugs on the spot) they were all clean with no weird signs of oil or corrosion... turn the engine on and the same issue, no power at all, RPMs low as 300/400 and i tried to move from the station. Drove like 800 metres when the engine died running down the hill (to not force the engine or anything I was going down the road on neutral). To avoid the steering wheel to lock and brakes to loose pressure I tried to start putting on 3rd and releasing the clutch, my surprise was the engine didn't start at all. Reached the bottom of that road, on the flat and the car never started again. When you try to start it sounds and look like will start normal but doesn't... Jump starting doesnt work either... Left the car there for a couple of days (its far from home and I dont have much time to go there often, thank God it's in a safe spot in a nice suburb lol) today I went there and tried to start, engine started but only for a few seconds and really weak with RPMs low as 300 again ![]() ![]() ![]() My guesses are: MAF sensor (where the heck is it in the st204?), fuel pump, timing belt (could it be the timing belt if the engine started again?!), some stupid wire that I couldn't find, some vacuum issue, any other problems with the whole air intake system? I have no idea and don't have the $ to start digging for the issue, I need to find a good guess that rules out most of the other options and pray i can fix it myself ![]() Any ideas? ![]() |

Have you checked compression? also Take the cover off the timing belt and see if it jumped a tooth. Are you getting fuel? Maybe your pump gave out. A good way to check is to use starting fluid in the intake

The 5S doesn't have a MAF. the timing belt could have skipped a tooth, fuel pump could have died, etc. Your best course of action would be to pull the codes from the ECU to see where to start.

Don't drive it or start it until its fixed or you can cause some serious damage. Should check the compression and go from there.

based on your description, it sounds like your fuel pump died.

if its the fuel pump, i just replaced my gas tank. the tank that i replaced it with had the old fuel pump set aside. it still works. if the scrap guy doesn't take it i might be able to get it to you.

The 5th gen uses a 150 lph pump whereas 6th gens use 190 lph pumps.
