Currently I have my rev limit set at 6,300 rpm to bounce back to 6k rpm. I still feel a considerable amount of power when accelerating around 6k so I want to raise the rev limit now that my engine is broken in after the build. I have my injectors set to open earlier in the rotation to give me a little more fuel at higher rpm, and I'm wondering how well the stock FPR will hold up if I raise the rev limit. First I want to raise it to 7k, then 8k if 7k still feels solid. The audi individual coils I'm running provide a crazy hot spark (*hot enough to make me change my plugs every 10k miles according to the audi guys). So considering the spark and earlier fuel delivery I want to see what it can do on a street tune before I dyno tune it. I'll also be changing my lobe separation angle soon for higher RPM power.

So...will the stock FPR give me the pressure I need at a sustained 8k rpm? Or should I go with an aftermarket? I have an AEM fpr that I want to try out, I just need to install it. But if the stock FPR holds up I would rather sell the AEM.

The best guys to ask on this would be ATS racing. They know their stuff, and they also have a fuel pressure regulator mod to help with higher horsepower builds.

X2 on bsamps4's post the guys at ATS are awesome. But as for your rev limit I'm not sure why you have it so low to begin with? The factory rev limit is set around 7,250 rpm if I'm not mistaken. That could be the reason your still pulling so hard at 6k. wink.gif

On 3rd gen 3sgte. Using oem FPR, making over 400whp on 1200cc injector, no fuel issue. Got my rev set at 7500 rpm.

Part of the reason for the 6k rev limit was that the Autronic factory settings stop at 6k unless I add columns, the other reason was to keep the rpm from going too high while breaking in the new engine, even though I was driving carefully you never know. I'm at 2k miles now, well over a safe break-in period, so I'm wanting to raise the RPM.

FPR does not care what RPM you are at. it is a very dumb component. as long as its getting a vacuum reference and capable of supporting to pressure and flow. it will.

if you are worried then upgrade it. But Azncelica's statement makes me believe that it will be just fine.

yea, the stock FPR will be fine, until you want to manipulate your fuel pressure for whatever reason down the road.
i have rev'd to 8k while testing a "mines" tuned ecu with the raised rev limit (like others have said, 7250 or so)
ditch the AEM FPR, and when your ready to adjust FP, get an aeromotive or similar FPR. your fuel setup is one place you definetly want nothing but the best, IMO.

like smaay said, the FPR dont care about RPM, its only job is to restrict flow out of the fuel rail to keep the pressure its supossed to. (IIRC its what, 42psi or somthing with the vac ref. pulled?, and is a rising rate FPR, which will raise FP 1psi for every lb of boost, IE: if your running 20lbs of boost, and your base FP is 40psi, you'd see 60psi FP under full boost.)

this is all correct. Also like in my swap, im running an adjustable FPR (aeromotive) but i have no vacuum reference hooked up to it, therefore it stays static at the fuel pressure i set it at. This is what the later MZ engines want.
