And where the hell did the whole Honda talk come from. Last I knew this was a Celica network. I'm pretty sure that is a totally different company......

QUOTE That is what I wanted an that is what I built. I built it to be different an it worked. If it catches on an more being do it cool. If not...cool. I did it for me. I realize that now. best post in this dumbass thread. comparing a v6 that makes 95% of its power below 5k rpm, and a I4 that makes 90% of its power above 4500rpm is really stupid, imo. it really is all about how the individual wants the car to feel, and drive. the best way to find out which setup is for you is to seek out someone who has whatever setup your interested in, and drive it, or at least ride in it. if 5-600$ diffrence between one setup or the other is the determining factor on a swap, you shouldnt be swapping, period. if your doing a swap because someone told you one setup is better than another, you should be swapping, period. Yea I'm the smartest dumbass lol I'm not jumping in on the debate cause I love my husband and I am proud of the work we have done on the v6 and at some point I would love for my 7a to be a beams. But the biggest kick I've gotten in a while is to know he's the smartest dumbass....lol I just wanna be clear here...I never called ANYONE a dumbass. I said this is a dumbass thread. If you wanna infer me calling anyone a dumbass, it'd be dustin, since he is the one who started this thread. And yup, the 1mz redline is 6250rpm or so, but just like the 5s, hp drops like a rock from right around 5k till redline. Also, for the 215ftlbs off idle guys...yup 215ftlbs @ 2500rpm...and a whopping 90whp to go along with it. ![]() -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Which is better, beams or 1mz? Neither. Get a gen4. The reason you go NA is because you hate lag. A gen4 does a lot to minimize that. The gen4 gets results comparable to a 2gr, and is a pretty easy swap. The cost is fairly low too. They are actually a bit cheaper than the beams.

Just my opinion based on the inside info I have on how people's swaps actually go and what people think of the final product.
Beams tends to underwhelm (though I liked mine and my 64 year old dad thinks his is really fast). The last one I did only took a weekend. The beams is also a good fit for mk1 mr2's and corollas. 1mz is a whole lot of work. Definitely not a weekend swap. Guys get the motors cheap, and then get nickel and dimed to death on the accessories. People like the end result better though. You can also resell a well swapped v6 car for more it seems like. So:
If you have another car and time to patiently do a swap, 1mz. If you have no time and your car is your daily driver, BEAMS. Problem solved. 3sgte or nothing. I'd be willing to bet you'd make up for the cost difference just in resale on the car.
I considered going to a beams, but i started a subaru build so no more performance related things going into the celica. -------------------- -93 Rx7, Turbo 6.1L v8, 725rwhp/760rwtq

I'm not a fan of gen3 lag. Definitely a reason some might not want that motor.

I drive my 1MZ swap daily 130 miles. It makes for a much better DD. I get 30+ MPG
All this debate is silly. A 1MZ makes more power and torque than a BEAMs. A 1MZ swap can be done cheaply. I don't know how you guys are getting ridiculous prices. A 1MZ swap can be legalized A 1MZ has parts readily available. Funny how you guys call it a "Soccer mom Sienna" engine since it actually came out in a Camry and Es300 years before it was in a Sienna. -------------------- ![]() |

We got the prices we have from a lot of trial an error since there no info for doing it in a celica. An none of us did our wiring. An in my case I bought 2 motors an 3 ECU's an 2 mafs an spent money on other stupid things.
We've all said it could be done much cheaper than we have done it -------------------- 95 gt coupe, v6 swap weekend toy

I pulled off the 2grfe swap I did for my brother fairly cheap. If you can do your own fabrication, this helps a lot with v6 swaps. If I didn't come up with my own headers and mount, I would have spent $1700 on that swap kit for the 2gr.

I dont think i was nicke and dimed too bad. I chose to upgrade my clutch and flywheel, I did have to buy another ECU because i didnt plan better, the first one i got had an immobilizer. Another issue i had was my engine came from an auto, i should have got one from a manual, the headers are different. the autos have a pre CAT in the front and the rear is shaped slightly different so it doesnt hit the shift cables So: If you have another car and time to patiently do a swap, 1mz.
