Hey everyone. So I'm looking to rebuild the 7afe in the new daily/project. I have a machine shop that does work for dirt cheap so I'm just going to rebuild the stock motor.
Question is. does anyone have any suggestions on full rebuild kits? Or just piece it all together buying parts from Toyota? Trying not to spend a fortune as this is NOT a performance build.
Rebuilding Head & Block.
Kit needs to include water & oil pump, head gasket, valve cover and all other head & block related gaskets. Might even be looking for a 'master kit' that would include pistons and perhaps rods if they are found to be outside of 'spec' (doubtful, but had rod knock).

Thanks for any information you might have.

i have a very detailed thread on building the 7A-FE in the stickies.

toyota has an engine rebuild kit. make sure you get one for a 97, it will come with the metal headgasket and every other gasket, plus more....

unless your cylinder bores are way out of spec, you only need to hone the walls and use new rings on the pistons.

Toyota full gasket kit doesn't include anything aside from gaskets.

Rods, unless bent, won't be "out of spec". In any case, they could get their big ends honed and the crankshaft could be turned to accept oversized rod bearings.

Get an OEM Toyota gasket kit (the extra $100 compared to an eBay gasket kit are worth the peace of mind and will keep naysayers away)

Get Aisin pumps. You'll find many vendors in eBay that will sell Aisin stuff for very cheap. It's all the same as Toyota quality, at a much cheaper price. Aisin oil pump and water pump are good.

NPR pistons and piston rings are great quality too, and King Engine Bearings are very good.

Isn't Aisin the one who supplies toyota with most OEM pumps?

Exactly, but toyota marks them higher because they come in a toyota branded box and the parts themselves are toyota branded.

Aisin pumps have the toyota brand ground off, because they use the same mold for both parts.
