Currently having clutch slippage issues under boost (at a ****ty 6PSI I might add LOL). I see ACT rated their 5S-FE clutch at 270?ft lbs of torque and I'm shooting for a lot more than that so I don't know if it's the right clutch to buy.
Fidanza flywheel with 3sgte/5sfe hybrid clutch is what I need but it's out of my budget right now. Is there anything for the S54 that is remotely good? -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

I've heard many good things about Southbend. A lot of the higher horsepower guys on here use them and recommend them.

I don't think anyone's here been past 300whp on an S54 with stock flywheel though with no issues. Most people go the hybrid clutch/flywheel setup with the bigger 3sgte clutch disk with 5SFE 20-spline hub

Southbend can make you a clutch with will hold up. the one they made me worked excellent. i still have it in fact.
im not sure what your setup is but if you want more power, i suggest you call southbend, talk to andy or john, tell them i sent you and what you need. they will build it or tweak it to your needs. for example, im my swap, i just got an OEM clutch replacement for the 1MZ but i had them stiffen up the springs on the pressure plate so it will hold more torque since i still plan on S/C it. ACT clutch is actually right down the street from me, however i will never use their clutches again. ****ty customer service and their clutches kept breaking on me -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo

I was looking at southbend but their 320ftlbs clutch (their stage 2 "drag" clutch) really doesn't look any different than say an ACT 6puck with HD pressure plate. ![]() -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

back when i had the 5sfte, i ran the ACT setup for a long time, and it held 300+ftlbs, never slipped, but i ended up popping a spring on the disk.
i definetly wouldnt wanna go any heavier than the street setup as far as the ACT, the pedal feel was pretty heavy with that one, somthing stiffer would be horrrrrrible for anything but a weekend/track car. the problem with the 5s setups, is that in order to get enough holding power for the turbo, especially if your planning for more than 300ftlbs at the wheels, the pressure plate is gonna end up being really stiff. even with the hybrid setups, the extra tq that the 5s creates made me get more clutch than i really wanted to for a dd setup. that said, everyone seems to have good luck with the southbend setups, i would at least give them a call, from what i've seen, like jeff said, they have really good customer service, which is big, IMO. i've had good luck with clutchmasters as well so far, in cars that i've installed them in, so maybe give them a call as well. i dont have one in my car presently only because my comp clutch is still holding, but pedal feel with the comp clutch is HORRIBLE. especially compared to a similar clutchmasters setup. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Competition Clutch is great but I've tried it on a Genesis and it's pretty stiff, I don't really mind a stiff pedal however since this is more a "drive when I feel like it" car than a DD. My girl's car is the real daily. Let's see what southbend tells me. -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

i had a full 5S-FE clutch before i did the V6 swap. the pedal feel was amazing, maybe a hair heavier than stock but the pressure plate was rated for 350 lbs of torque. Southbend has a method for increasing pressure plate power and still have a nice pedal feel

Called southbend and the shipping is killer... they'll only use UPS to ship which is 4x more expensive than USPS... we'll see.
