Hi everybody. I'm new to celica's and toyotas in general after coming from mainly building 13b rotarys. I found a nice 1998 Gt with an excellent body( which is very rare here) but the water pump failed and it over heated so it was sold cheap. The only motor here for sale are 2001 Camry motors. I know both engines are roughly the same except the Camry has coils. My question is can I swap the 2001 Camry motor in? I need to keep it the same motor for autoX classing. Can I swap the distributer over along with my other accessories and make it work or does the celica head need to be swapped over to the Camry block? Any info would be great. Thanks

You would use the Camry engine with all your celica electronics. New engine might not have EGR and most likely won't have a fuel return, and the header will not fit, nor the oil pan will be the same.
Those are a few basics, but yes, you can use the camry engine with some details changed here and there. -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

fuel return has nothing to do with anything. the OP will use his rail and manifolds.
im not 100% sure if you can knock out a block off so you can use a distributor. not even sure if the new cams are keyed to turn a distributor. the 6th gen is a terrible autocross car, its heavy and slow with the 2.2L in it. not sure where you are but there are several engine swaps you could look into. 3S-GTE (which is a stock engine for the 6th gens.) BEAMS 3S-GE (also a stock engine for 6th gens) and there are V6 options -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo

The car was going to be in street prepared class. Stock engine and drivetrain with suspension and brake upgrades. That's the class my friends run and its mostly low end cars for a laugh rather then to be competive. After reading your replies I am interest in this 3S-GE motor even if it outclasses me from my friends.
http://torontojdm.com/cart.php?target=prod...category_id=117 Not sure if I linked that right but is that the red top motor you mentioned. It's a complete motor with harness and ecu. Anything else you can think of that I'd need before starting. I may just replace the water pump on the stock motor for now and gather the parts and materials for a swap after I've learned an bit more about the car |

Actually a 3SGE swap is still allowed under the Street Prepared Class so it could be a worth while swap.
You could even go with a 3SGTE and still be able to compete in FSP -------------------- 1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situation エキサイティングカーレーシングチーム! march 2010 COTM : 6GC feature 2014 : january 2015-2016-2018 COTM |

I would imagine the all motor 3SGE would be "idea" here... -------------------- -Mike

I think it would be fun to experiment with. And it really really depends on the course. It would do just fine on a fast course, but it would be HORIFFIC on a tight course. I raced an event last month where the course was so tight even my car did terribly ( I can imagine it would have been much worse with a 3S)
I can see a 3SGE being a bit more versatile throughout the different courses you get good point bringing that up This post has been edited by Tigawoods: Nov 1, 2013 - 9:47 AM -------------------- 1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situation エキサイティングカーレーシングチーム! march 2010 COTM : 6GC feature 2014 : january 2015-2016-2018 COTM |
