So the last Celica I was looking at was actually a lot worse then the seller had made it out to be, so I took a pass on it. A couple of weeks later, I came across a different one. This one is a '98 black hatchback GT 5spd, with black leather seats (but the driver's side bolster is ripped/nicked). It has 201K miles, and the following mods:
VIS Carbon Fiber Hood, Cold-Air Intake, HID Headlights, 16" ASA Wheels, Low Profile Tires, F1 Racing Stage 2 Clutch/Pressure Plate/T.O. Bearing, Header, Custom Exhaust, Hooker Header, R-1 Cross Cut/Drilled Rotors, Ceramic Brake Pads, Alpine CD Player, Kicker Impulse Speakers, Tinted Side Windows, Clear Front Turn Signal/Maker lights

He is asking 3500 for it. I would give him 2000-2500 for it, but am I lowballing or is that about right?

I'd say anywhere from 2500-3500 sounds about right. If I was the seller. The lowest I would go would be 3000. Me being the buyer I would ask 2900. 3000 is a fair price on both you and he seller.

not like it would change the price but it shouldn't have a throw out bearing and I'm pretty sure hooker doesn't have a 5S header.

the car doesnt look bad exterior wise. Hard to tell through that image through

Maybe i'm just drawing a blank here, but shouldnt every manual car have a through out bearing? It's the pilot bearing that some cars have and others don't.

ASK HOW MANY MILES ARE ON THE CLUTCH!!!!!!!!

It's a crappy ebay one. On mine, all 6 springs blew out after 1,500 miles. The TOB had a lot of chatter too.

Looks fairly clean, as long as it's mechanically sound and free of rust I'd say in $2,500-3,000 range.

Every Celica should have come with that three-spoke. If you buy it I'd wrap that header since the SRI is taking in hotter air than stock now. Drilled and slotted rotors are nice but really won't benefit you unless track time is involved. The radiator looks newer, CF hood is excellent. Install strut bars and stiffer sway bars, and you'll have yourself a nice car there.

Or, more accurately, I think he means that every 6th gen should have come with the 3-spoke steering wheel instead of having the 4-spoke from '94 to '97; ie. the 3-spoke should have been standard every year.

What Brian said. I like the four-post, but three is much more sporting.

I just don't like it because it's not sporty enough. I mean the four spoke can also be found in my dads Camry. Lol.

So sue Toyota for reusing 50% of their parts in all of their vehicles. tongue.gif I've made it a mission whenever I jump into another Toyota/Lexus to see what parts have been reused. The wheel is sporty in feel, and that's what really matters. Who cares what it looks like, personally I don't find it that appalling. Though the later 3-spoke does look nicer, I don't see the point in replacing unless you find a 3-spoke for cheap.

Yeah, my grandparents have a 1MZ auto '98 Camry Touring (so it even has the stock GT alloys in a different stud pattern). I drove it for the first time the other day... there is SOO much just copied over, yet they drive COMPLETELY 100% differently (in full favour of the Celica of course).

I wouldn't say the wheel feels sporty. Its just the car that makes it feel sporty. Lol. When I drive he Camry. It doesn't feel sporty to me. Just feels like a normal dd car. Lol.

It has the sport grips at 9 and 3, has finger ridges along the back of the top, and it's small in diameter but thick. May not be the sportiest wheel out there, but it's definitely better that what came in a lot of cars. If you want to talk about terrible wheels in sports cars, look no further than the Grand Am wheel used in 4th gen Firebirds... tongue.gif

Stock 6th generation Celicas hold their value pretty well. That one looks to be in decent condition though, besides the mods you listed. I bought my first 6th gen 10 years ago for 3800 and still seeing them around that price range. Hell, even 7th gens are 4-5k now a days! Just make sure everything is in working order and drives good. What I like to do is bring it into a local Toyota dealership for inspection. That's just me though lol!
