Hey! I'm new here so this is kinda a saying hello post and asking for advise. I have a 94 celica gt-s and lately as my motor as been gaining kilometers (I'm Canadian) I have been thinking about rebuilding the engine but I've always wanted more power so I've been researching motor swaps. So i'm wondering what would be my best option. 3S-GE? or the 3S-GTE? I was told the AWD motor can be fwd all i needed was a MR2 tranny and drive shaft? I'm not sure how true that is so I'm asking what i should do! Would the red top 3S-GE be noticeable from the 2.2 in mine already? I'm pretty sure it has the 5S-FE.

Being you have the GT you can use your transmission for either the BEAMS or 3S-GTE. Another option is the 1MZ-FE V6 but it takes a little more work to pull off, can still use your transmission with it though. It just depends on what you're wanting out of your car. If you'll be happy with 200hp and still want decent fuel mileage go with the BEAMS or 1MZ. One advantage of the 1MZ is any parts for it can be easily found locally or online, it is out of a Camry(and many other cars sold in the North American market) so there's an advantage there. Then you have to decide if you want a car that's low end power biased(1MZ) or top end power biased(BEAMS), or if you want 250+ you'll want to go with the 3S-GTE. Plenty of members on here have done each swap and have made posts detailing such. I suggest flipping through the "My Projects" section of the forum to get some ideas on what you want to do.

Engines are not fwd or AWD. That's dependent on the transmission. Yes, you can very easily bolt up a FWD transmission to a 3S-GTE. You can pull off a BEAMS swap for $2,000-2,500 where a 3S-GTE can cost $4,000-6,000.

Still a FWD setup. The differences between a Celica engine and an MR2 engine lie in the small details- power steering pump and alternator placement, coolant necks, and emblems being put on upside down in the MR2 variants.

Transverse is the word your're looking for. Anyhow, it'd still be best to get the BEAMS from a Celica to save headache on all of the accessories and what not.
Just to throw it out there buying another car is always an option. This post has been edited by Box: Nov 8, 2013 - 7:59 PM -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed

Haha I don't really wanna buy a new car cause no one around here was a 6gen celica, i wanna keep standing out! Just looking into more power! for 1500 i can get a beams comes with block & head, 5 speed transmission, uncut wiring harness intake manifold, exhaust manifold, Starter Alternator, PS pump, Ac/ compressor. I will link a picture at the bottom of this reply. So if i wanted the 3S-GTE what would i need extra if i wanted it to be fwd?

your question has been answered 3 times. the 3S-GTE will bolt right up to your stock transmission. that will make it FWD. and you do NOT want to use an MR2 transmission. the shifter linkage is on the wrong side. you want to use a Camry/Solara 5 speed. Its the same transmission with the linkage on the correct side.
Box has given you the absolute perfect answer. This post has been edited by Smaay: Nov 9, 2013 - 11:28 AM -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo
