so with my new 3sge came an e56 transmission. they cut out the axles right after the outer shaft. so I need new outer shafts does anyone know which outer shafts are compatible? here in the us?
also the shifter cables are cut. I asked someone with the same trans he told me he used the ST model celicas shifter cables and they worked? is this correct? can anyone help me please none of this is covered ive searched threads and threads but no 1 clarified 100% about the outer shaft not the hybrid mr2 combo just the stock inner shaft on e56 which outer shafts work? also the shifter cables please and thank you.
ive already figured that mr2 3sgte 2nd gen turbo uses same cam seals and crank seal and oil pump seal as the 3sge 3d gen na only difference is timing belt and 1 of the tensioners idlers.
also water pump only the outer portion works.

The E56 is a special transmission, I wrote up my thoughts on what should work if are going to use that transmission in another thread a while ago, hopefully you can find it. But from the sounds of it you are pressed for time to do the swap, so you can use your S54.

the gearing is closer from 1st to 2nd but compared to the s54 it has the same 4th and 5th and the s54 has a shorter final gear while the e56 has a wider final gear so its better for high ways but overall the s54 was a fun transmission on the streets =]

so yes the e56 will rev lower on the fwy in 5th gear that's what the chart is telling me...
basically 5th gear in s54 at 7k ur going 100mph and
and e56 5th gear at 7k ur going like 90mph this is an example. is this correct?

QUOTE (BonzaiCelica @ Sep 16, 2009 - 3:28 PM) *
Gear Ratios for JDM S54:

3.285 * 4.176 = 2027.5 - 37 mph
1.960 * 4.176 = 1209.7 - 62 mph
1.322 * 4.176 = 815.9 - 91 mph
1.028 * 4.176 = 634.5 - 118 mph
0.820 * 4.176 = 506.1 - 147 mph
Reverse 3.153:1

E56 Ratios :

1st 3.538
2nd 2.045
3rd 1.333
4th 1.028
5th 0.820
Reverse 3.583
Final 4.235

so how is it that 5th gear will be cruising at lower rpm with E56? reverse is different in s54 if that affects the final drive??

I'm pretty sure the final drive in the s54 is way shorter than the e56.
Idk about JDM s54 I'm talking about usdm s54.

The E56 is still an E series so maybe MR2 axles and all-trac outters will work.

but go the cheaper route, use your S54. who cares if you are a few hundred RPM slower in 5th gear

well honestly I would like to use my s54 but the clutch is bad. 1 axle is bad and it has a bad shift fork so it drives pretty bad.
that's why id rather use the e56 that came with my set up. thanks smaay. and I like ur v6 set up good work.

Back from the dead!

So the 5S/S54 axels are what, exactly? Too short to use with the E56? The inner driverside axel fit inside the housing, I tested before the engine was mounted...

I still can't tell what transmission this is - does anyone have comparison pictures? or even a picture of the E56?

kaos ur transmission is 100% an S tansmission, the 5s axles do not fit on the E56 transmission they will not go onto each other. they have diffrrent teeth count, its physically impossible. google e56 ss2 3sge the tranny is different, and has a black case cover, not grey like urs.
