Hello I recently swapped over from 99 5sfe to 94-95 rev 3 3sge with e56 transmission,
My issue is that I can't get the car to crank from the ignition key, but I can start it from jumping the solenoid with the 12mm power on the starter. I can't seem to figure it out does anyone know of this problem and both 5sfe and 3sge were MT |

Kind of a silly question but I want to knock the easy stuff out first. What happens when you turn the key? Clicking? Does the power seem to drain a bit from the lights like there's a load on the battery? Any noises at all?
Second question, is the starter relay in place in the junction box (the box with the EA1 plug)? Third, did you repin the clutch start wire? I'm thinking that wire is the issue at the moment, but I don't have all the details. Just some questions to get things started. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. yeah, what did u do to the wiring of the car to swap to the celica, did u just plug the engine harness as it is, or did you repin wires, or joined or etc. without an idea of what involved in wiring, its kinda hard to tell.. Im assuming the wiring should be very similar related to the beams but cant tell.

I've messaged this guy a couple of times about this.
From what I understand the engine runs, but cannot start it the normal way via the starter, so my thought was its either the starter relay (Remember page 460 in the repair manual has info on how to check it.) Or the other thing I'm not too clued up on is the clutch starter since we never had that in our ST202/ST205's -------------------- |

I would suspect the starter relay also. But best is to check the differences between the wiring of the 5SFE and 3SGE. Mostly they're almost identical, but just one difference may prevent the car from cranking. Maybe the relay of the 3SGE has another part number then the one on the 5SFE???

At first take I would agree with Richee and Rusty.
Clutch start wire. It's in a different pin overseas, he needs to re-pin that wire. -------------------- |

What if the clutch starter pin/wire was possibly bypassed (during the 5SFE days) for command start?
Would this be affected in the swap? I haven't gotten to the wiring of my 3SGE yet, but I'm very interested to hear of what pins, etc need to be moved around. Also, to the OP; did you have your harness extended? Or did you just cut the firewall and put it through that way? This post has been edited by KAOS: Dec 10, 2013 - 12:09 PM -------------------- |

Not 100% sure on my 5sfe but I had to normally push in the clutch and turn it on, this motor I did not re pin anything for the clutch I didn't know we had to, I extended a few wires all I know is I need to rein the airbag I didn't know I need to repin starter cuz it already has a wife going to the relay and ea1 plug but if repin needs to be done which harness engine look or chassis?
