I 'd like some feedback regarding a few things with the coilovers and SS system. Things such as whats your ride height (how many threads are showing below the locking nut). How long/did your coilovers settle? What damping setting on the SS are u using?

Thanks guys I'd just like to compare.

On a side note, wow this suspension is great. Its unrelenting, takes the turns like a champ. Bumpier ride though.

My height is at the "standard setting" that they specify in the manual, it could go a good deal lower but I wouldn't be able to drive anywhere. Raising it would probably allow for less bumpiness due to having a greater travel available, however I find the standard settings to be quite nice.

For daily driving I believe my dampening is around 4-5 clicks up from the softest because otherwise it gets a little rough on ill-maintained roads that are everywhere around here. The standard setting of 10 clicks back from the most firm setting is very sporty, but gets old because of the harsh ride.

I feel one of the best ways to truly find a perfect feel is to set the dampening to another 1-2 clicks softer than standard settings, and then play with your tire pressure a little. It's amazing how communicative the tires become with these coilovers, but a little towards the soft side and a little firm on tire pressure and the feel is nearly perfect.

EDIT- I've begun to realize that keeping the rear somewhat softer in the rear makes understeer much less pronounced when cornering hard....forgot to include that.

I've found my rear end hits alot harder than the front. I dont know if this is the nature of the car but I have the back end softer than the front.

I'm gonna take a pic of my rear end (haha) and post it to show you where my car sits and its not low enough for my liking. Too much wheel gap. Did any of your springs take time to settle?

Rear end should hit harder. Since the springs in front are 4 kgf/mm and the rear one's are 3 kgf/mm.

Weight balance is about 63% front/ 37% rear. So even so the springs are softer in the back, they have to carry so much less weight so on the same setting they feel harder.

But I set the back harder then the front (got EDFC) so the are Level 0 (hardest) in the rear and Level 4 in the front. Thinking with thicker swaybar in the rear I can put the back out.

for USDM SS dampers its 7 kgf/mm front and 5kgf/mm rear.

http://www.tein.com/ti/l36.html

+ a lil higher than tein recommended height makes the feel for a better suspension stroke.

Kadett im surprised you can drive around with it at a level 4. I had mine on 2 clicks harder than standard setting and it was way to hard for the roads around here.

I also have the ST sway bar in the back.

I have driven it without EDFC for about 2,5 months on the hardest lever smile.gif
BTW my Dampers were delivered on the hardest setting smile.gif Maybe you have turned them a bit softer wink.gif Clockwise = harder, Counterclockwise = softer

No problems at all. Only streets that are paved (with bricks) instead of tarmac were not so nice. I we have ALOT of those in every town/village/city here.

But if its true that the US spec dampers are with stronger springs then I could imagine the difference.

i have a question about edfc. ive read that it is not compatible on the ss setup on our cars and i have also read that it is. ive seen it both ways so many times on a numerous amount of sites. just want to clarify if it is compatible on our cars with the Tein SS setup

also are they full threaded or partially threaded

I don't have any tire to actually put in there! But that's from Aug 2006 so I've since lowered it a couple more times. But I have an exhaust to look out for.

I was running on the lowest setting in the front and about 4 threads up in the rear. The reason is because in the rear, my tire would hit the coils when all the way lowered. I have since changed it to match in the front about 4 threads up and my dampening settings are at 6FR/6R.
I wanted to add something though. The title of this thread is called the Tein Superstrut/Coilover conversation. This confused me as I was thinking about the SuperStrut suspension that is factory on the GT-four and on other celica models. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the "SS" in Tein SS stands for SuperStreet, not SuperStrut.

your right maskedman, and I read this because I have had many kind of information about the superstrut and lowering a car with superstrut, but this wasn´t quite that..

Megan is not quality stuff. They're made from poor quality materials.
